Description and characteristics of Triumph grapes

The plant was created by United States breeder Campbell. To obtain the variety, the popular Concord and Muscat Chasselas were used. Surprisingly, after the Triumph appeared on the market, these varieties practically disappeared into oblivion.

Triumph grapes are tall, vigorous. Its leaves have three cavities, quite large in size. Flowers are bisexual. The bunches of grapes typically range in weight from medium to large and tend to be more conical in shape.

Triumph Amur grape belongs to table varieties. This must be taken into account before proceeding with its processing. From one bunch, you can collect up to a kilogram of fresh berries, which, of course, is a rather large indicator. Contrary to popular belief, oval grapes can be more than just dark purples. There are also variations with a deviation towards golden and green.

In any case, there is a natural wax coating. On average, the weight of one berry is 4.5 grams, but it can reach about 6 grams on an age vine. You can find out the specific characteristics of a particular variety from the seller of the plant.

The main characteristics of Triumph grapes:

  • main ripening time - from August 15 onwards;
  • average yields are about 50 tons per hectare for a middle-aged vine;
  • resistance to low temperatures - withstands up to -50 degrees;
  • disease resistance - not susceptible to mildew, phylloxera.

Triumph grape fruits have good taste characteristics. They have a typical grape aroma, but it does not become less over time. It contains a high amount of sugar, making it one of the best options for making a wine drink.

Advantages and disadvantages

The grape variety, bred in America, is popular in the countries of the former USSR. The fact is that this plant has perfectly acclimatized to the frosts that are familiar to the country. Summer residents grow grapes even under adverse conditions. At the same time, an additional advantage is that the harvest takes place in mid-August, which is a little earlier than the rest. This makes it possible to pick berries before the first frost.

Grapes are also used to create hybrids. This is explained by the fact that it easily takes root, in case of damage it quickly recovers.

Other benefits of Triumph grapes that summer residents especially highlight:

  • optimal for making wine due to maximum sugar content;
  • large yield variety;
  • easy to harvest;
  • great variety of berries by color;
  • ease of disembarkation, care.

The downside of this variety is that it is not always pleasant to eat fresh. The fact is that its skin is quite dense, it has to be thrown away, and the pulp left.

Specific cultivation of the variety

For successful cultivation, pay attention to the following points.

Timing

Triumph grape seedlings are planted in early spring, but after the last frost. But in some cases it is allowed to plant a plant in late autumn.

Preparing the seedling

During the purchase, you should carefully inspect the seedling. It should not have dry places. If there are damaged roots, then such a seedling will not work. But the presence of small creases is acceptable - then they are simply removed.

Choosing a seat

A grape seedling of this variety is placed only in well-lit places. Choose the southern part of the garden, which is not obscured at any time by large trees. Place from north to south, while landing on steep hills is not allowed (a maximum deviation of 5 degrees is allowed).

The soil in which the seedling grows needs to be cultivated regularly.

If there are not enough useful substances, then mineral fertilizers are applied. According to summer residents, slightly acidic soil will be optimal for growing Triumph grapes.

Seating algorithm

It is necessary to prepare the hole, pour mineral fertilizers into it. If the soil is of insufficient quality, then supplement with nutrients. The seedling is placed in a hole, the plant is watered. It must be fixed with a support - an ordinary wooden stick will do. The soil is sprinkled with mulch, but this is not necessary.

Care instructions

Competent care is also important.

Cutting

Pruning is mandatory. This is done for at least 4 eyes along the length of the fruit arrow. The arrows are fixed. Pruning is also carried out before wintering.

Feeding

Top dressing is carried out at the stage of flowering and ovary formation. Feeding:

  • 3 weeks before flowering (organic);
  • after color fades after 2 weeks (also organic);
  • before ripening for a few days (potassium sulphate and superphosphate);
  • after harvest (in the same way as the third).

Irrigation

To collect the largest amount of berries is possible only if the plant is regularly watered. A drip technique is used, while top dressing is done during watering.

Watering is carried out only at the beginning of ripening. It is reduced when the berries begin to dye. But after their staining and ripening, it is not recommended to add water.

Preparing for winter

Triumph variety is characterized by low temperature tolerance. But it is worth accustoming the plant to this. In the first two or three years, the vineyard is protected in the winter in the usual way. At the end of time, one sleeve is left. If it’s normal, then they don’t hide at all for the fifth year.

Protection from diseases and pests

Although the plant can cope with pests and diseases, regular treatment with insecticides and fungicides is required.

Collecting and storing grapes

Harvesting is carried out from mid-August. Storage is possible, as the grapes have a dense skin.

Triumph variety produces many fruits that are used for different purposes. When fertilizing, leaving the plant will delight for many years.
