Sheep, especially those that graze outdoors, are prone to infection with a large number of different parasites. The Russian company "NITA-PHARM" has released the drug "Ivermek" for veterinary use, the correct dosage of which for sheep will protect them prophylactically or successfully cure even severe forms of damage by insects and roundworms.

Composition and formulation of the drug

"Ivermek" is available as a solution for injection. Packed in glass containers:

  • ampoules 1 ml x 50 pcs. packaged with instructions;
  • vials up to 250 ml;
  • 500 ml bottles.

Main components: ivermectin - 10 mg and vitamin E (tocopherol acetate) - 40 mg. Additional components of the water-dispersed mixture:

  • diethylene glycol monoethyl ether;
  • benzyl alcohol;
  • polyoxyethylene-35-castor oil;
  • water.

Medicine vials are sealed with rubber stoppers fixed with aluminum caps.

When used

Ivermectin is used in veterinary medicine when cattle are infected with nematodes (worms) or arthropods. It destroys pests that are in the larval or sexually mature stage of development. Sheep are treated against helminths with injections of the drug in the fall, after the cessation of grazing on fresh grass and in the spring, when the first vegetation appears.Parasite eggs do not die either in frost or in heat. They remain in pastures for many years outside the body of the animal. Immediately after the end of the summer of gadflies, ivermectin is used against their larvae. According to the symptoms, they look at whether it is necessary to treat for ticks. The harmful effect of the drug against parasites lasts 10-14 days.

Instructions for use and dosage of "Ivermek" for sheep

Excluded the introduction of the drug to pregnant females later than 28 days before the birth of the lambs. The active substance is excreted through urine, bile and milk, so poisoning of the cub is possible. For the same reason, the drug should not be mixed with feed in order to avoid getting it into the gastrointestinal tract of animals of any age.

The minimum package of "Ivermek", 1 ml, is consumed per 50 kg of body weight. The dose for each kilogram of sheep weight is 200 micrograms. Injection guide:

  1. The hair at the injection site on the neck or croup is cut off.
  2. The skin is wiped with alcohol or tincture of iodine.
  3. Take needles with a sharp bevel.
  4. Syringes and needles are sterilized in boiling water for 10 minutes.
  5. Check if the dose is correct.
  6. The temperature of the medicine should be 38-40 °C.
  7. After filling the syringe, lift the needle up and push the air out of it.
  8. When they started to inject the solution, closely monitor the condition of the animal. In case of signs of malaise or arousal, the administration is stopped immediately.

In case of extensive lesions of the animal with a tick, ivermectin is administered again after 8-10 days.In order to prevent massive complications in the herd of sheep, the effect of the drug from each new series is tested on 7-8 animals with different body weights. With a successful outcome, all livestock is processed in three days.

Side effects

When Ivermek is used correctly, side effects are extremely rare. Only some animals have:

  • increased salivation;
  • increased urination and bowel movements;
  • impaired coordination without muscle weakness.

These symptoms usually disappear quickly. "Ivermek" can not be administered to the body together with drugs, which include macrocyclic lactones, as it also contains them. There is a danger of increasing the toxic effect of both drugs.

If an animal is highly sensitive to Ivermek, it is treated with antiallergic drugs and remedies for specific symptoms.

Are there any contraindications?

Patients with infectious diseases and malnourished rams and sheep should not be given Ivermek. They need to be isolated from the rest of the herd until they get stronger. It is forbidden to inject the drug to animals in which its individual intolerance has already been identified.

Additional to the antiparasitic action of the advantages of the drug are:

  • presence of antioxidant, vitamin E;
  • no irritation at injection site;
  • absorbed quickly.

Special instructions and measures for personal prevention

Work with the drug should be in gloves. This is especially true for people who are aware of their tendency to allergies or sensitivity to the components of Ivermek. After completing the procedure, wash your hands with soap and water. Glass containers from under the medicine are thrown into the trash without trying to use them on the farm.If the drug gets into the eyes, they are immediately washed with plenty of water.

In case of allergic symptoms or penetration of the solution into the mouth or nose, immediately consult a doctor, taking with you the label from the bottle or the instructions from the packaging of the ampoules.

Animal meat and milk are consumed no earlier than a month after the treatment of sheep with Ivermek. Violation of the regimen of the drug can make the treatment ineffective. If the injection date is missed, the same dose should be given as soon as possible.

Terms and conditions of storage

The shelf life of Ivermek is 2 years under the following storage conditions:

  • shaded place;
  • temperature - from 0 °C to 25 °C;
  • whole manufacturer packaging.

After the first opening, the solution is stored for no more than 42 days. An expired drug should not be used. "Ivermek" is kept in a securely closed container of the manufacturer, avoiding contact with food and feed, out of the reach of children.
