Hellebore tincture is used to treat diseases in cattle associated with indigestion. The brown liquid has a strong irritating effect. Alcohol infusion from the root of white hellebore should be used carefully, without exceeding the dosage, as it is toxic. Properties of hellebore

The drug is obtained from the root of the white hellebore, insisting on 70 ˚ ethyl alcohol (1:10). The active component of the remedy is hellebore alkaloids. In addition to them, the composition includes:

  • starch;
  • protoveratrin;
  • tannins;
  • sugar;
  • nervin;
  • resin.

Means has a sharp specific smell, is used only for veterinary purposes, sold without a prescription. The drug belongs to ruminatory and emetic. Within 5-10 min. after taking the medicine inside, ruminants improve motility and secretion of the pancreas, belching and chewing appear.

In addition, hellebore tincture is used for external use as an antiparasitic agent. The drug is generously applied to the body of the animal. After 20-30 min. comb out, then rinse with water. After 7-10 days, the procedure should be repeated, as the product acts on insects, but not on their eggs.

Indications for use

In calves, tympania can develop at the age of 1.5-2 months, when, in addition to milk, they begin to eat concentrated and roughage.Cows get sick when fed lettuce leaves, potato tops, legumes. Frozen, contaminated food is especially dangerous. The disease develops very quickly.

Hellebore tincture is used to treat small livestock and cattle. It is advisable to give the remedy:

  • when the rumen is overfilled with fodder masses;
  • if there is a disorder of pancreatic contractions;
  • to increase motor skills and resume the ruminant reflex;
  • with increased gas formation, which causes swelling of the scar.

To enhance the effectiveness of the treatment with hellebore tincture should be combined with a massage of the stomach. Also, an aqueous solution is used externally for therapeutic and prophylactic purposes, in the fight against fleas and withers.

Regulations and dosages for cows

Instruction for the use of the remedy for the treatment of cattle:

  • Cows are given 5-12 ml per day orally. If the dose is calculated depending on the body weight of the animal, 2-2.5 ml/kg is taken;
  • for the treatment of tympania of the scar, the daily rate is divided into 3 doses, drinking hellebore tincture to a cow or bull with a frequency of 3 hours.

Hellebore water should be diluted in 50-500 ml of pure water (the amount is calculated by the weight of cattle). Then the product is poured into a plastic container and the animal is forced to drink. A calf with acute spasms of the gastrointestinal tract is also given hellebore tincture. To do this, dilute 5 ml of the product in 500 ml of water.

If an infusion of the drug into a vein is indicated, the solution is administered slowly and carefully. Intravenous injection is given once.

Failure to comply with the dosage and injection speed of the agent leads to intoxication of the animal's body, sometimes to death. The dosage of the drug for adults is 0.004-0.006 ml / kg (on average, 2-3 ml per head). The treatment regimen for the animal is recommended to be agreed with the veterinarian. When the drug is injected intravenously, an increase in the animal's pulse above 100 is a signal to stop the injection.

Contraindications and side effects

Means is contraindicated for use in relation to pregnant cows - leads to miscarriage. In some cases, there is an individual intolerance to the drug by animals (the use of the drug is stopped, drugs are prescribed to eliminate the allergic reaction). In all other cases, subject to the dosage norms, no negative consequences after treatment with this remedy have been identified.

Overdose

There are known cases of intoxication of the body with a tincture of the root of white hellebore. The animal comes into a state of strong nervous overexcitation, often defecates loose stools. There is also increased salivation. Breathing slows down, vision is impaired.

Cattle have pallor of mucous membranes, convulsions are possible. To stabilize the condition of the cattle, it is necessary to inject him with a solution of atropine subcutaneously.

Storage conditions, analogues

It is recommended to store hellebore tincture in a cool, dark place out of the reach of children at a temperature of 0 … +20 ˚С. The shelf life of the drug is 3 years from the date of manufacture. After its expiration, it is forbidden to use the product for the treatment of animals.

After opening the bottle, the drug does not lose its medicinal properties for 7-8 months (if storage conditions are not violated).

  1. "Tympanol". The composition of the product includes hellebore tincture. The drug, administered orally, relieves excessive gas formation, enhances peristalsis, ensuring the rapid movement of intestinal contents, and has a ruminatory and antiseptic effect.
  2. Lactic acid. It is used for the prevention and treatment of intestinal inflammation, flatulence. It suppresses putrefactive processes in the stomach of cattle, reduces the formation of toxic decomposition products. It is impossible to use concentrated lactic acid, the animal will burn the mucous membranes. The advantage of the product is that it is approved for the treatment of pregnant cows.
  3. Hellebore water. Water-alcohol solution for the treatment of pediculosis. The drug acts on the intestines of parasites. At the same time, the ability of lice to feed and reproduce is impaired. When using a remedy for the treatment of cattle, care must be taken that it does not get on the mucous membranes of the animal.

When using hellebore tincture, you should carefully follow the instructions. The healing properties of the drug are manifested only when used in small quantities, exceeding the norm leads to the death of cattle. The owner who performs therapeutic procedures should avoid getting the product in the eyes.
