Cage for ducklings: drawings and dimensions, how to do it yourself at home

Duck breeding is not an easy task, contrary to popular belief, which is erroneous. In addition to the skills of the farmer, cash costs will also be required. There are two methods of breeding: floor keeping and in cages. The latter method is more modern and budgetary. At the same time, the key to a successful start in breeding birds is proper care for young animals, which includes cage equipment for ducklings.

Types of cages for ducklings

Cage keeping allows you to raise more birds without even having a lot of space. With this method of cultivation, up to 40 ducklings are placed on an area of 1 m2, while with a cell-free one - no more than a dozen heads of young animals.In such structures, ducklings are raised up to 15 days, and then the birds are released for walking.

There are several types of structures, depending on the number of livestock and the scale of production:

  1. Multi-tiered. This type of structure allows you to compactly accommodate a large number of birds in one area. It is often used in poultry farms. The presence of bumpers reduces the amount of debris that birds can accidentally push out of the cage. The entire structure is designed to provide maximum comfort to the brood while still compacting the stock.
  2. With mesh floor. This type of cells is used in household plots. The design is easy to build on your own, and it has many advantages. If the floor is made of mesh, it is very convenient to clean it, since a pallet is installed under it. Litter constantly falls into the latter without the intervention of the farmer.It is easy to take out without disturbing the birds. In this case, clean air will circulate in the duck house, which ensures the full development of the young.

Drawings and dimensions

For the productive breeding of ducklings, a number of points must be taken into account. Important data that affect the dimensions of the structure:

  1. The planned number of ducklings in a cage - on average, it is expected that 300 cm will fall on 1 head2.
  2. Optimal design dimensions for 10 ducklings - a product with parameters of 70 x 50cm is considered suitable.
  3. Placement and number of drinkers, feeders - their number depends on the livestock in the cage.
  4. Cell sizes.

An important parameter is the height of the structure. The duck should be able to stand up to its full height without stooping or feeling uncomfortable. For the correct calculation of the height, the breed of ducklings is taken into account. According to average data, the optimal value varies between 30-40 cm.

Required tools and materials

The material can be anything from metal to plywood. In the first case, the cell will be highly durable, but can quickly rust, especially in high humidity conditions. Rust is detrimental to young and adult ducks. But plywood quickly becomes unusable, which negatively affects the farmer's budget.

Better to stop on a tree. It can be covered with linoleum, which will save the material from moisture. For work you will need:

  • boards;
  • metal mesh;
  • screwdriver;
  • self-tapping screws;

How to make a cage for ducklings with your own hands

At home, it will not be difficult to make a mesh structure. A detailed video of the manufacturing process will also come to the rescue:

Before assembly, you need to prepare the workplace. Be sure to level the surface where they plan to carry out work, if there is no suitable place.

It is better to use gravel, which is spread evenly and compacted. A solution is kneaded from cement and clay, with which gravel is poured. After complete drying, the prepared area is poured with bitumen.

Assembly work order:

  1. First, two frames of the same size are assembled from the boards. Board length - 1.5 m.
  2. Then, several support bars 0.5 m long are attached to the first frame.
  3. The doors are made from wooden beams sheathed with mesh.
  4. The lid is attached to the top - the remaining frame, which is already prepared.
  5. The cage is sheathed with a prepared mesh.
  6. The last one is also laid on the bottom.
  7. Finished products are equipped with drinkers and feeders.

In addition, the cage must be installed in a warm barn. Young people should be comfortable in it. It is necessary to exclude the conditions under which they huddle in heaps to bask. To make the livestock comfortable, at the end, sawdust, coarse sand or chopped straw are used as bedding. When making a floor for ducklings, it is better to prefer moss peat. The thickness of the layer depends on the weather:

Cell keeping birds allows you to grow a large livestock in a small area. The main thing is to correctly calculate the dimensions and equip the structure that will be comfortable for both ducklings and adult livestock.
