Drinking bowl for geese: types and how to do it yourself

Drinker for domestic geese is a necessary device, because the bird constantly needs a lot of fresh water during the day. The he alth and productivity of geese directly depend on this resource. Drinkers can be made independently, but first you need to carefully consider which design is more suitable for birds. It is important to fulfill certain requirements and take into account suitable sizes.

Types of drinkers

There are several types of drinkers:

  • grooved;
  • cup;
  • nipple;
  • vacuum;
  • tray.

Gutter type of drinkers is most often used in the cultivation of birds on an industrial scale. Often they are found on private farms and in small farmsteads.

Gutter devices are oblong gutters made of tin. They must be fixed to the wall at a small height from the floor. This will require brackets. Basically, they are used in cell cultivation. The design is popular because it has a number of important advantages:

  • saving water;
  • no spatter;
  • quick water change.
Cup structures are used for floor keeping of geese. These are cups of a semicircular shape, mostly plastic.They are mounted on a bracket that can rotate around a horizontal axis. During filling with liquid, the cups are lowered and the valve shuts off the water supply. The valve rises according to the degree of emptying of the tank, and the water begins to flow into the bowls again.

Automatic bowl drinkers are in demand because they are convenient, affordable and easy to install in the house.

Nipple structures are used for outdoor and outdoor rearing for birds from 3 weeks and older. Represented by nipples - metal elements with a rubber seal. They are inserted into a special housing and attached to a pipe that supplies water. Such drinkers are universal, because as the bird matures, they can be reinstalled to another level.

Vacuum drinkers are most often used for goslings under the age of 3 weeks.This is a small plastic container, a stand with a chute in the form of a semicircular ring. It is characterized by convenient use: water is poured, a stand is placed on top, turned over. When all the water is used up, air enters the channel. This contributes to the new filling. The system is semi-automatic.

Tray products can be made of steel sheet, plastic, wood. They have sections of various shapes and are supplemented with devices that prevent the geese from completely immersing themselves in the container. The structure is made from readily available materials and can be automated, but does not prevent splashing.

Requirements and dimensions

It is necessary to calculate in advance the required amount of water, based on the number of livestock, the age of the geese. When equipping a drinker for adult birds, it is important to provide devices that will prevent geese from turning the structure over.Since they are waterfowl, they do not miss the opportunity to swim, so the geese should not be completely placed in the container.

One adult goose needs up to 1.6 liters. For the first time, newborn chicks need to drink boiled water at room temperature. It is poured into suitable narrow containers. They are covered with a large mesh to prevent bathing babies. At the same time, regardless of the age of the birds, the device for drinking should be as stable as possible. The water in it should always be clean and fresh.

Required tools and materials

To make your own drinkers, you may need the following tools:

  • drill with drill bits;
  • screwdriver;
  • hacksaw;
  • level;
  • pencil;
  • roulette;
  • knife;
  • sealant;
  • screwdriver;
  • soldering iron.

Materials may require: plastic bottle, PVC pipes, nipples, rubber gaskets, plastic water tank, drain, pressure regulators. Regardless of what type of material is planned to be used, it must meet certain requirements. Tightness and lack of deformation under the influence of moisture are the main requirements for the material for drinking bowls. Therefore, metal is considered a suitable material, in particular, galvanized steel, which is not afraid of corrosion.

How to make do-it-yourself drinkers for geese

Everyone who is going to breed geese should know that pets and birds need free access to clean and fresh water. This is especially necessary for geese, because it is a waterfowl.

Properly equipped drinkers provide livestock with water throughout the day. The main requirement for structures is safety. Drinkers can be made independently, having basic tools and materials in the arsenal.

It won't take long. Each design is simple, easy to use, quick and easy to clean, and automatically fills with water as it is used.

From a plastic bottle

Products from a plastic tank or bottle are more suitable for adult birds. To make it, you need to put a bottle of the desired volume in a small basin. In its lower part, you need to make a hole with a diameter of 1.5 cm.

After that, you need to pour water into the bottle, covering the hole with your finger. Putting the bottle in the basin, the finger can be removed. The drinker is ready. Through the resulting hole, the liquid is poured into a basin, which serves as a pallet. As water is consumed, it is automatically replenished.

Nipple

Nipple drinking system is more suitable for small chicks. To make it yourself, you need to purchase:

  • nipples (their size depends on the age of the birds);
  • square-shaped plastic pipe;
  • pipe cap;
  • water tank;
  • hose;
  • adapter for connecting a square pipe and a round hose.

From the very beginning, you need to drill a hole in the square pipe. Next, a thread is formed and a nipple is inserted. Their number should correspond to the number of livestock. An important detail is that the distance between them is at least 30 cm. Then pallets should be attached under each nipple to collect water. A plug is attached to the end of the pipe. On the other hand, the pipe is connected to the hose.Water comes from the tank through a hose. The main advantage of this type is that this design works without spilling water.

Cup

The peculiarity of the cup drinker is that the liquid is supplied only after it is completely finished. The design is a bowl from which the geese drink, and containers for storing water.

It's easy to make a drinker yourself. To do this, you need a plastic container, a rubber hose, a reservoir for storing liquid. A hole is made in it for the hose, the joints are treated with sealant. Insert the hose into the bowl and fasten firmly. The principle of operation of such a drinker is based on the automatic flow of liquid from the tank into the bowl. However, the design has one drawback - it cannot adequately prevent water pollution.
