Types of green honey and differences

The appearance of an unusual color in a product familiar to everyone is explained by the absence of honey plants in the habitat of bees.But insects need daily food, and they begin to collect sweet nutrients from coniferous and deciduous trees. Such compounds secreted by plants are called honeydew, and they give the delicacy an unusual color and taste.

There are two types of bee product:

  • Honeydew natural bee honey takes on a green or emerald hue thanks to the trees from which insects collect nutrients and nutrients;
  • nectar, mixed in certain proportions with propolis, also becomes greenish.

Important! Any of the above products is characterized by a high content of vitamins and minerals necessary for the functioning of the human body.

Composition and calorie content

Dead honey is significantly different from the usual nectar. It consists of micro and macro elements, organic acids and vitamins, but does not contain pollen.

Green product is characterized by a high content of iron, manganese, cob alt and potassium, B vitamins, ascorbic, nicotinic and folic acids. From the usual bee nectar, green delicacy is distinguished by a lower sugar content. The composition of moisture in such a product is also higher, reaching up to 17%. There are up to 330 energy units per 100 g of green honeydew honey, the product is considered high-calorie.

Natural honeydew nectar is used in folk and traditional medicine for the prevention and treatment of many diseases:

  • green delicacy activates brain activity, relieves fatigue, increases the body's resistance to physical and moral stress;
  • protects the body from the development of neoplasms;
  • promotes the proper functioning of the cardiovascular system;
  • has anti-inflammatory and antibacterial action;
  • used in the complex treatment of diseases of the gastrointestinal tract.
Green honey, homemade with propolis, contains the nutrients and vitamins of flower nectar, but fortified with the properties of the bee bond.

Cooking green honey with propolis at home

You can't make honeydew honey yourself, but you can mix nectar with propolis at home.

This will require:

  • any bee flower nectar in the amount of 200 g;
  • 10g bee glue;
  • a container for mixing ingredients and a saucepan for a water bath.

Propolis is crushed. To simplify the task, it is best to freeze the bee glue and then grind it on a regular grater. Next, bee glue is melted in a water bath. Honey is also slightly heated in a water bath and mixed with propolis, thoroughly mixing the ingredients until a homogeneous mass is obtained.

Important! The resulting healing product contains many useful properties, but is also a strong allergen, which must be taken into account for people with a predisposition to allergies.

Storage and shelf life

Store the honeydew product in glass or ceramic containers, under a tightly closed lid.Due to the low sugar content, natural green delicacy is not subject to long-term storage, it quickly turns sour. To prolong the use of the healing agent, the containers with the product are placed in a dark, cool place.

Honey, prepared on the basis of nectar and propolis, has a long shelf life, just like any other variety of flower product.

How to spot a fake

To purchase a natural honeydew product, you first need to familiarize yourself with its main characteristics:

  • The color of natural honeydew honey depends on the plants from which the insects collected nutrients, it can have shades from light green to bright emerald;
  • the taste of the bee product is also not standard, with pronounced bitterness;
  • no floral and fruity notes in aroma and aftertaste;
  • the consistency of the green delicacy is viscous, viscous and elastic;
  • the product is practically not subject to crystallization, quickly turns sour and deteriorates.
To check a natural product for a fake, lime is mixed with water in a ratio of 1:2 and infused for 5-6 hours. Next, 100 g of green honey and the same amount of infused lime are added to 1 liter of distilled water. The resulting mixture is brought to a boil in a water bath.

Important! Real honeydew honey is determined by the presence of flakes in the boiling mixture, their absence indicates fake products.

Storage

Keep rare, healing honey in a dark, cool place, under a tightly closed lid. The self-made product is stored as normal flower nectar.
