Tomatoes Voevoda: description and characteristics of the variety, cultivation and care with photos
Among large-fruited tomatoes, Voevoda f1 variety is different. In the course of numerous experiments, breeders bred a tomato with a large mass and excellent taste. What other benefits does a "warrior" culture have?
Variety description
Voevoda f1 - indeterminate large-fruited variety. With proper care, the fruits weigh between 500 and 1000 g. At first glance, this seems unrealistic, but it is true. Tomatoes grow so large that the stem bends or even breaks under their weight. Green leaves have the usual shape for tomatoes. The stem is tall and powerful.
Fruit characteristics:
- Fruits are round, flattened at the top and bottom.
- A freshly set tomato is light green, and a ripe tomato is bright red.
- The skin is smooth, shiny.
- The meaty, coarse-grained flesh is endowed with a pronounced tomato aroma and sweet taste.
As you can see, the characteristics of the hybrid variety are quite impressive. But for tomato bushes to reach their full potential, they need to provide the right conditions.
Features of cultivation and care
Seeds are sown for seedlings 45-55 days before the expected planting date. The optimal sowing date is from March 15 to April 10. Please note that seedlings sown closer to warm days grow faster than those that were planted in the ground immediately after the start of the period. As a rule, the difference between tomatoes of different ages is almost imperceptible.
Planting material is sown in boxes filled with a special purchased substrate for growing seedlings or a mixture of garden soil, biohumus (10%), perlite (5%). To avoid infection of young plants diseases contained in the soil, the substrate is calcined at a temperature of 60 degrees before sowing.
Sown in the right substrate, a high-yielding tomato will quickly start growing and protect itself from a number of dangerous diseases. However, in order for the processing to be successful, it must be remembered that it is impossible to give the soil a higher temperature, because it will become dead.
Tomato seeds are placed in grooves 1 cm deep every 2.5 cm. Planting material can be laid out on the surface of the soil and stuck to the desired depth with a match. To create a greenhouse effect, the container in which the tomato was sown is covered with a film or glass on top.As soon as the sprouts get a little stronger, the shelter is removed.
The temperature in the room where the seedlings stand should be kept at + 15- + 18 C during the day, + 10- + 12 C at night. A sharp cold snap will not allow tomato seedlings to stretch. After 7 days of this mode, the temperature during the day is increased by 5 degrees, and at night - by 2-3.
The first time the seedlings dive after the formation of 2-3 true leaves. Tomatoes are transplanted to a permanent place after the appearance of 5-6 leaves. 10 days after planting the seedlings in open ground, the bushes are tied up and formed. According to the description of the Voevoda f1 tomato variety, it is better to form bushes into one stem. For this, stepchildren, whose length is 5 cm, are pinched, leaving a 3 cm process on the stem. Thanks to this method of formation, the tomato directs all its forces to the formation and pouring of fruits, and not to the maintenance of ineffective pagons.
During the period of active growth, tomatoes are regularly watered and pampered with root and foliar dressings. Among fertilizers, calcium nitrate and organics have proven themselves well.
If you grew a giant tomato on your plot, share your impressions with other gardeners. Your feedback will help to make a decision, those who rely on life experience, and not on theoretical descriptions.
