Specialists who know a lot about the cultivation of tomatoes, argue that the Japanese tomato does not cause any difficulties when growing, even for beginners. Varietal seeds of this tomato are in many collections of amateur enthusiasts, however, seed farms do not propagate this seed.

Japanese has quite a lot of advantages:

  • can be planted both in open ground and in greenhouses;
  • high quality seed and high germination rate;
  • seedlings from selected seed are resistant to plant diseases;
  • fruits from which seeds are taken for sowing are grown in compliance with all agricultural standards.

However, the Japanese variety has some drawbacks:

  • you can buy seeds only in some tomato collectors;
  • seeds are expensive (for 10 seeds you will have to pay about 100 rubles).

Features of the variety

Describing the Japanese tomato, one should emphasize its high yield and the ability to bear fruit until late autumn. Where tomatoes come from - there is no reliable data, but there is a version that the variety was first grown in the city of Bogorodsk. Why this seemingly family variety, grown in the Nizhny Novgorod region, has such a strange name is also unknown.

Japanese is a hybrid crop, which was supposed to be grown in greenhouse conditions, however, today it is also planted in open ground. The characteristic of the variety is as follows:

  • unlimited stem growth (up to 2m);
  • need for pinching and garters;
  • plant formation in 1 or 2 stems;
  • recommended for growing in greenhouses;
  • open ground can be planted in southern regions;
  • mid-early tomato (when planting seedlings in May, in July it is already possible to collect ripe fruits);
  • bush slender, not too sprawling, dark green leaves, medium-sized;
  • simple brush (up to 5 tomatoes);
  • fruits are heart-shaped and pointed;
  • average fruit weight is 300-350g;
  • ripe tomatoes are red with raspberry hues and are sweet in taste as they contain sucrose;
  • thin skin has a high density, so the fruits are well preserved in salads;
  • tomatoes are high in nutrients;
  • suitable for use raw, as well as for making juices, sauces, soups.

Cultivation specifics

It is recommended to sow Japanese tomato seeds in the second half of February. Two months later, the seedlings are planted in the ground. The cultivation of this tomato variety is carried out in several stages.

Sowing seeds

In order for tomato seeds to “wake up”, their growth should be stimulated with a special solution.

Important! Planting material should be dressed before sowing. This will help prevent plant diseases. The most effective dressing is aloe juice, in which the seeds are soaked. To make juice, take the lower leaves, wrap them in a cloth and keep them in the refrigerator for 1-2 weeks.After the leaves are crushed to a state of slurry and the juice is squeezed out. Soak the seeds for 15-18 hours. They are not washed before sowing or sprouting.

Sow tomatoes in loosened soil, which should be slightly moistened. Sowing depth - 2 cm, all seeds are best sown in small separate pots. From above, the ground is covered with a layer of snow. When melted, the snow will saturate the soil with melt water. This will speed up seed germination. After the pots are placed in a warm place, after putting plastic bags on them. The first shoots can be seen in a few days. Sprouts will need a lot of light and a temperature of + 14-16 ° C. After the seedlings get a little stronger (7-10 days), the temperature should be + 18-23 ° C. Moisten the soil as it dries.

In order for seedlings to be productive, they need to be fed: 2-3 fertilizing with a solution of mineral fertilizer.

Planting tomatoes

The Japanese planting rate is 4 sprouts / 1 m². After planting seedlings, care should be taken as follows:

  • mulch soil;
  • provide water as needed;
  • ventilate the greenhouse every day;
  • feed plants once every 2 weeks;
  • remove stepsons to form 1 or 2 stems;
  • when forming fruits, remove the leaves on the brush;
  • pin the tops in July-August depending on the climate.

Variety of high-yielding tomato Japanese is universal. Even inexperienced vegetable growers can grow such tomatoes. After harvesting, you can stock up on seeds from your own grown fruits. This will make it possible not to spend money on the purchase of seeds next year.
