Pathologies of the digestive system in goats provoke stool disorders. In this case, there is a change in the consistency of feces, the appearance of impurities and pain. When constipation occurs in a kid, what to do and what signs may occur, the veterinarian will tell. He will be able to make an accurate diagnosis and, depending on this, select an effective treatment.

Possible causes of constipation in a goat

There are quite a few abnormal conditions that cause constipation in kids.

Atonia

The appearance of this pathology is due to malnutrition. The following leads to it:

  • excess feed that is difficult to digest - straw, poor quality hay;
  • excess in the diet of concentrates - grains, animal feed or bran;
  • prolonged use of watery food - stillage, beet pulp;
  • admixtures of soil or sand in food;
  • use of spoiled food.

The development of atony is possible against the background of changing conditions of detention - it is caused by a violation of the microclimate and high humidity. Pathology of a secondary nature is caused by traumatic injuries of the digestive organs, general intoxication, infections or helminthic pathologies. In sick goats, there is a deterioration in appetite, lack of chewing gum. Constipation is usually replaced by diarrhea. There is also general weakness, exhaustion, loss of luster and turgor.

To cope with the pathology, it is necessary to eliminate provoking factors. To wash the proventriculus, an infusion of 5-10 liters of Glauber's s alt solution with a concentration of 1% should be done. You can also use a solution of baking soda or acetic acid.

The normalization of nutrition is of no small importance. On the first day, a starvation diet is recommended. For the prevention of exhaustion, nutrients are administered parenterally - glucose solution, calcium preparations. On the second day, it is permissible to use hay and dairy products.

Infectious diseases

The defeat of kids with infectious diseases is most often due to 2 factors - infection from the mother and violation of sanitary and hygienic recommendations. In the second case, the disease spreads rapidly between kids. Therefore, at the first symptoms of a violation, it is worth isolating the infection of the animal.

In addition to constipation, the following signs indicate the development of infectious pathologies:

  • increased body temperature;
  • depression;
  • disruption of the digestive system;
  • nasal discharge;
  • cough;
  • impaired mobility.

If the goat loses its appetite and becomes less frisky, this is considered an alarming symptom. At the same time, it is important to check the composition of the mother's food or diet, treat the room with disinfectants. If the condition of the pet does not improve, it is worth contacting the veterinarian.

Parasitic invasion

Fasciolosis or piroplasmosis can be the cause of constipation. With the development of chronic fascioliasis in kids, there is an alternation of constipation and diarrhea. Pathology is provoked by flat worms, which belong to the Fasciolidae family. They lead to liver damage. The most dangerous for young animals is the acute form of the pathology caused by the migration of larvae.

With the development of the disease, there is general weakness, blanching of the mucous membranes, impaired digestive functions in the form of constipation and diarrhea. There is also swelling of the limbs, abdomen and dewlap, urine becomes red, hair falls out.

In the acute form of the disease, "Acemidofen", "Dertil" are used. Adult worms are helped to eliminate "Polytrem", "Ivomek", "Disalar".

Another dangerous disease is piroplasmosis. It is caused by blood-parasitic unicellular organisms - Babesia. They infect red blood cells, which provokes lysis. Infection is observed when biting ticks. 5-12 days after the bite, there is an increase in temperature to 42 degrees, severe weakness occurs, and the frequency of contractions of the heart and breathing increases. Also, kids suffer from constipation, hypotension of the scar, cloudy urine.

With such a diagnosis, infusion therapy is performed. At the same time, saline solution, glucose with a concentration of 5%, "Hemodez" are administered intravenously. Specific therapy includes Azidine solution at a concentration of 5%.

Diagnostic measures

To make an accurate diagnosis, it is recommended to consult a veterinarian. Studies are prescribed taking into account the clinical picture. Stool samples help to identify helminthic invasions.

Often a hematological examination is performed. This procedure is usually required if piroplasmosis is suspected. Microscopy reveals many destroyed red blood cells, pear-shaped parasites are present in the blood cells.

How to treat intestinal obstruction in an animal

Constipation may indicate bowel obstruction. It develops under the influence of various factors. Most often, it is possible to cope with the problem in an operational way.

Medications will only help with mechanical blockage with food. In such a situation, laxatives are prescribed. You can also do an enema.

Possible problems

In the absence of timely treatment, there is a risk of undesirable consequences. Many diseases can cause the death of animals or disturbances in their development. There are also a number of contagious pathologies that can cause the death of the entire livestock.

Prevention of constipation

To avoid stool disorders, it is recommended to follow these rules:

  • feed the kids properly, taking into account age and productivity;
  • do not give spoiled vegetables, hay, straw to pets;
  • balance the diet by including nutrients depending on the physiological state;
  • avoid sudden transition of pets from one food to another;
  • mix roughage with succulent;
  • give animals only clean and fresh water;
  • Get your goats active walks lasting at least 2 hours.

Constipation in kids is quite common and may indicate dangerous pathologies. To avoid undesirable consequences, it is necessary to correctly diagnose and strictly adhere to the recommendations of the veterinarian.
