A goat does not leave afterbirth: causes and what to do, folk methods and prevention
Anonim

The afterbirth is the shell of the embryo, which consists of the placenta, watery, mucous secretions and blood. The goatling feeds through the biological shell while in the womb. After his birth, the placenta, mucus and fluid come out. Sometimes the goat's placenta does not leave - it remains inside or hangs outside. It can be separated independently - with the help of medicines and folk remedies.

Why doesn't a goat's afterbirth go away?

The placenta separates naturally within three to six hours after birth and mother feeding. The shell does not come out for a long time for the following reasons:

Multiple Pregnancy Overweight Overweight reduces fertility and increases the likelihood of postpartum complications Lack of vitamins and trace elements Avitaminosis develops as a result of malnutritionGenetic pathology as a result of closely related relationships Mating closely related animals leads to fetal abnormalities, birth defects and retained placentaWeakening of uterine walls Weak muscles have goats that are not let out of the barn, living on a leashInfection Poor hygiene in the barn leads to infection of the animalNer In primiparous goats, milk appears after childbirth, and the afterbirth departs after the first feeding of the cubs.Goats need to be milked more frequently to help shed the biological membrane and produce more milk.
Uterine distension and accumulation of large amounts of amniotic fluid delays the delivery of the placenta

The farmer has 24 hours to help the goat get rid of the afterbirth. If the amniotic sac has not come out for a maximum of 2 days, the animal develops endometritis - inflammation of the mucous walls of the uterus. The condition is accompanied by purulent-bloody discharge with an unpleasant odor. Sedentary lifestyle of goats, malnutrition and low immunity are conducive to inflammatory processes. With the development of endometritis, the risk of developing sepsis is high.

People in labor die from pain shock and blood poisoning during the day. They try to separate the external and internal remains of the placenta on their own using one of the medical or folk methods.

What medical care to give a goat

When the amniotic sac is retained for a long time, it is better to call a veterinarian. But in rural areas, a doctor is not always nearby. Breeders try to solve an unpleasant problem on their own, without distracting the specialist from a more serious challenge.Home methods help get rid of the placenta within a day. If you failed to help the goat on your own, and the animal became worse, then you can’t do without the help of a veterinarian.

Increase the contractility of the uterus

If the placenta has not come off, contractions of the uterine walls are stimulated with medications:

  • "Oxytocin" is a hormone produced by the body. The solution is sold in a veterinary and conventional pharmacy, is administered intramuscularly in the evening after milking. Dosage should be checked with your veterinarian. For a young goat, a small dose is enough - 0.5 milliliters of the drug. General recommendations for administration - 1 ml in the morning and evening for three days;
  • "Dicinon" - solution strengthens blood vessels and increases blood clotting, sold in ampoules of 2 milliliters. The approximate dose is 6 milliliters per day. The course also lasts 3 days;
  • "Vikasol" - a substitute for "Dicinon" with a similar effect, pricked 2 times a day for three days;
  • "Bicillin-3" - an antibiotic in powder, diluted with saline. The dosage is calculated according to the weight of the animal. An injection is given once a day to prevent bacterial infection.

It is dangerous to prescribe an antibiotic dose on your own. Exceeding the concentration of the drug in the blood weakens the liver and kidneys. The three-day course should be continued even when the outer part of the placenta departs, since unseparated parts of the placenta may remain inside. In difficult cases, veterinarians inject antibiotics into the uterus: Rifacycline, Norsulfazol.

If several goats are expected to give birth, it is better to stock up on Oxytocin or its analogue, Oxylate. In an emergency, the drug will alleviate the condition of the animals before the arrival of the veterinarian. Also, the doctor should be warned about the measures taken.

Cleansing the uterus from the placenta

If the uterus is not cleared naturally, the placenta is pulled out by hand. After childbirth, it usually hangs on the outside, like an empty bag. How to pull out the placenta:

  • disinfect the goat's lower abdomen and hanging placenta with manganese solution;
  • put on sterile medical gloves;
  • smoothly pull the last.

It is important not to tear the placenta near the anus. The part left inside is difficult to remove at home. If the placenta is not pulled out by hand, a veterinarian should also be called. The procedure is important to do patiently and carefully. You can’t pull hard, otherwise the uterus will fall out.

Experienced breeders use puppies and afterbirth in dogs:

  • raise the goat by the front legs;
  • press on the stomach towards the tail;
  • carefully tug on the last

Reception should be done by two or three people. Also, goat breeders immerse their hand inside the uterus, find the remains of the placenta by touch and pull it out. In the absence of experience, it is better not to use uterine cleansing methods. An inexperienced hand can hurt an animal. The procedure requires maximum sterility so as not to introduce bacteria. Otherwise, the uterus will become inflamed and sepsis will develop.

To remove the intrauterine remains of the placenta, Ichthyol or Furazolidone are used in the form of vaginal suppositories. But their introduction is hampered by the fact that the goat does not let them in. Experienced goat breeders do not recommend tying the animal. Better ask a helper to hold the goat.

You also need to insert a candle with sterile gloves, after lubricating them with vaseline or vaseline oil boiled for half an hour. The procedure is recommended to entrust the hostess with strong nerves. Women's hand is smaller and lighter.

The animal can kick in pain, so there is no need to force candles. For small breeds, the introduction of vaginal suppositories is dangerous. It is better to take them to the clinic, where the cleaning procedure will be carried out using the insertion of a catheter.

Cleaning the uterus is not the first step. First you need to try more gentle folk methods or take an injection of oxytocin.

Introduction of important trace elements and vitamins

Foods high in vitamins are added to the diet after lambing:

  • root crops;
  • pumpkin;
  • zucchini;
  • enriched compound feed;
  • young apple, cherry twigs;
  • meadow grasses.

Delayed placenta causes an unbalanced content of carotene and calcium in the daily diet. Carotene is involved in the synthesis of vitamin A, which is necessary for the he alth of the uterine mucosa. A lack of vitamin A leads to keratinization of the mucosa. The source of the substance is hay from cereals and legumes in the amount of one and a half kilograms per day.

Vitamin C is needed for blood clotting and immunity. For strong contractions that push the fetus with the shell, calcium is required. Drug treatment is combined with vitamin injections if the reason for the delay in the placenta is beriberi and poor nutrition before childbirth. If the reason for the delay is different, the animal will develop hypervitaminosis from the vitamin cocktail.

Activity of a goat who gave birth

If the delay of the placenta passes without complications, the goat is taken out for a walk. The movement helps to free the uterus from the remnants of the fetal membrane.Walking is used as an additional way to help. If the goat feels good, you can combine walks with folk methods. But it is important to remember that the time for separation of the placenta is limited to days. After the allotted time, you need to call a veterinarian, even if the animal does not show anxiety.

Folk methods

To facilitate the discharge of the placenta, the following remedies are effective:

  • milking;
  • phytotherapy;
  • tying up the placenta.

The knotted placenta exits faster, and the release of milk triggers the mechanism of the natural release of the amniotic sac. Farmers notice that before giving birth, goats are unpleasant to touch the udder. But after giving birth, animals that are accustomed to the hands of the owners, better tolerate the first milking.

Medicinal drink is being prepared for a woman in labor:

  • decoction of nettle leaves or onion peel - you can give fresh nettle, after pouring boiling water over it, and add s alt and sugar to the husk;
  • warm boiled sweet water - 2 cups of sugar dissolved in a liter of water;
  • flax decoction - brew 25 grams of seeds in 250 milliliters of boiling water and give to drink an hour after lambing.
  • colostrum - 300 grams of sugar is dissolved in 200 milliliters of milk after giving birth and a goat is fed.

Flaxseed decoction can be added to sweet water. Colostrum stimulates the muscles of the uterus. Even after milking 200 milliliters of colostrum from an original goat, after a few hours you can find the afterbirth in the litter.

Nettle prevents inflammation and increases blood clotting. Onion peel is a natural antispasmodic and antiseptic.

In folk practice, an infusion of the following components is used:

  • sunflower baskets - 4 pieces;
  • onion peel - 4 cups;
  • ergot - 20 grams;
  • sugar - 1 cup;
  • water - 3 liters.

Ingredients mix and boil, pour sugar and bring the volume with water to ten liters. Infusion contributes to the rapid departure of the placenta. It is given to drink to the goat after lambing. Another effective folk method, which is used for prolonged retention of the placenta, is a saline enema. 20 grams of s alt are dissolved in two liters of water slightly warmer than room temperature. The solution is poured into a rubber bulb with a soft tip and injected into the uterus. The afterbirth departs within three hours.

S alt is also added to drinking water. The saline solution helps to restore the balance of electrolytes in the goat's body in case of blood loss and thirst.

Prevention measures

To prevent possible complications, it is better to invite a veterinarian for the first birth. For prevention, changes should be made to the prenatal care of the animal:

  • change the diet - before giving birth, feed the goat with ready-made concentrates;
  • carry out a launch - the gradual abolition of milking begins a month and a half before childbirth;
  • do not overfeed - obesity leads to the death of kids in the womb, difficult childbirth;
  • keep physically active - sedentary, overweight animals do not tolerate labor pains;
  • keep the barn clean - change bedding every three days, ventilate the room, heat in winter and prevent damp from spreading.

After the birth, which took place in the absence of the owners, you need to look for the placenta on the bedding in the barn. Sometimes goats eat afterbirth. If the remnants of the shell do not hang down from the back of the goat and are not on the straw, you need to call a doctor.Without an accurate location of the amniotic sac, you should not treat the goat with medications and clean the uterus yourself until the veterinarian arrives.
