A flowering plant with the beautiful name of verbena is rightfully considered a decoration of a garden, vegetable garden or balcony. Can vervain be dug up for the winter?

Verbena is a tropical, heat-loving plant, while some varieties of the flower easily tolerate light frosts. If the region has mild winters with positive indicators, then it is enough to warm the flower bushes with straw, sawdust or dry foliage. But in the central part of the country the winters are harsh and the beautiful, delicate flower will perish. Therefore, to save your beloved pet, you need to carefully dig it up and send it to spend the winter before the onset of spring.

How to store verbena in winter?

Dug cuttings of garden vervain are stored in dark, cool basements, cellars or outbuildings. You can also transplant dug bushes into pots.

Verbena in pots and flowerpots will be perfectly preserved in winter at home, if you follow the following rules:

1. In late autumn, before the first frosts, transplant the flowers into pots and containers, bring them indoors.
2. Cut the stems halfway.
3. If the plant has inflorescences during wintering, remove it.
4. Actively developing shoots are constantly pruned.
5. The air temperature must be cool, otherwise the flowers will begin an active growing season.
6. At the end of winter, they are cut short and transplanted into fresh soil.

Wintering flowers in pots and containers should be in a well-lit room, the south side of the house or apartment is best for accommodating representatives of the flora.
