Care Secrets

In order to grow the declared crop and avoid mistakes, you should follow certain rules for caring for plants. Properly prune a tree, prepare it for winter, water it in a timely manner.

Cutting

Crown formation is an obligatory process when growing cherries. This improves productivity. You should start cutting branches from the 2nd year of the tree's life.

Skeletal branches are formed, since the cherry is low, there is no need to limit growth. The first skeletal branch to be left is at a height of 40 cm from the ground. The strongest branch is chosen, then it is shortened by 1\3.

One more strong branch is left a little higher. It should be directed in the opposite direction from the one left earlier. The distance between them is 15-20 cm, the selected branch is shortened by 1/3. By the same principle, leave the third branch.

Then the second tier is formed. It is located at a distance of 60-70 cm from the previous one. Since the Baby tree is low, the 2nd tier consists of 1 branch.

After 60-70 cm, the last branch is left. The rest are removed without leaving stumps. The following years, according to the same scheme, skeletal branches are cut.

In addition to forming pruning, sanitary is carried out, deformed, diseased branches are removed.

Preparing for winter

The peculiarity of the Malyshka variety is its frost resistance. Cherry does not freeze in winter, but this does not mean that nothing needs to be done in preparation for winter:

  1. The trunk needs to be wrapped up, getting rid of attacks from rodents. To do this, it is wrapped with any improvised means, burlap, roofing material or rags.
  2. Whitewashing a tree will save you from pests and pathogens. When preparing the solution, 10 g of copper sulfate is added to a bucket of slaked lime.
  3. Feeding. During irrigation, complex mineral fertilizers are added for the last time. This will help the tree gain strength and calmly endure the winter.

A tree that has overwintered well will give a rich harvest for next year.

Irrigation

Fructification of a tree depends on proper watering. Another feature of the Baby is drought resistance. But this does not mean that it does not need to be watered, any plant needs moisture.

Cherry does not tolerate waterlogging and flooding.

Water in moderation, in the first year after planting moisten once a week. Finish watering in August. With a prolonged drought, they are watered in September. An adult tree is watered 4 times in 3 buckets.

Diseases and pests

Despite the fact that Baby is a hybrid, the tree still suffers from attacks by insects and pathogens.

Methods of struggle

In order to cope with diseases, plants must be processed. In the spring, before flowering, the trees are sprayed with special chemicals.

If the cherry is already in bloom, then folk remedies are used to fight diseases. They fight insects by hanging traps with sweet baits.

Prevention

Sometimes it is easier to prevent a disease than to cure a tree. Help prevent disease:

  • Loosening the soil.
  • Weed control.
  • Clean up fallen leaves.
  • Sanitary pruning.
  • Fixing cracks in the trunk.
  • Cleaning fallen fruit.

Compliance with the rules of planting, the implementation of agrotechnical requirements leads to the fact that the cherry is more resistant to diseases and resists insect attacks.

Cherry Malyshka has proven itself among summer residents with small garden plots.
