Peach gum disease: treatment and symptoms, prevention methods, what to do
Anonim

In childhood, everyone tried resin on fruit trees and did not know that it was a disease, not a treat. The reason for the appearance of glue is a violation of the integrity of the cortex. Chronic leakage of the sticky mass weakens the tree and leads to death. At the first symptoms, it is necessary to treat gum disease in garden peach, cherry, plum. And in the future - to prevent the disease.

What is gommosis?

Isolation of a sticky mass on tree trunks is a disease called gommosis (gum). Mostly stone fruits are affected: peach, cherry, plum.

Trees react to various kinds of damage. The process takes place in young wood. Cambium does not form new elements of the cortex outside and inside. Violated the biological work of cells. As a result, new cells appear, inside which starch accumulates.

Over time, the amount of intercellular substance increases, and the shell does not withstand, cracks. Then there is a dissolution of the cell membrane, starch. As a result of decay, a liquid, sweetish mass flows onto the surface of the trunk and solidifies, forming gum.

Why is there glue on the peach

The reasons for the appearance of a sticky mass on a peach can be:

  • fungal or bacterial infection;
  • agrotechnical violations;
  • climatic conditions;
  • pest infestation.

Chronic secretions of glue weaken the vitality of the plant. Therefore, the gum treatment needs treatment.

Fungal or bacterial infection

Mechanical damage to the bark of peaches causes gum to leak. If bacterial, fungal organisms enter the wound, they only increase the disease. Pathogens can be:

  • stone fruit cancer;
  • bacterial burn;
  • clasterosporiasis;
  • moniliosis.

Signs of gommosis are detected in all parts of the peach: on fruits, trunk, branches.

Violation of cultivation practices

Violation of agricultural technology can provoke a disease:

  • wrong soil. The disease develops on soil with an acidic reaction. A favorable environment is heavy, floating clay soils;
  • oversaturation with fertilizers, especially nitrogen elements;
  • overwatering;
  • high humidity;
  • excessive cutting;
  • scion incompatibility with rootstock.

The bark cracks and a sticky mass comes out.

Climatic conditions

Resin emission is exacerbated by adverse climatic conditions:

  • excessive moisture accompanied by cold;
  • in autumn, heavy rains are replaced by cold weather;
  • sunburn;
  • freezing peach in winter;
  • frost crackers;

In the spring, at the first symptoms, treatment begins.

Pest infestation

Pests break the bark layer, thereby provoking disease.

Wrinkled sapwood. Damage to the tree is caused by beetles and larvae. Insects make holes in the bark up to 2 millimeters, lay eggs, and die themselves, closing the puncture with their body. The larvae hibernate in passages under the disturbed surface layer. In the spring they open the holes and go outside.Over time, resin appears in the wounds, the gum flow begins.

Rodents cause considerable damage to trees, destroying the bark. As a result, they provoke a disease - gommosis.

Plum codling moth. Caterpillars eat away the pulp of peaches, filling the voids with excrement. Hardened gum appears in the holes.

How to treat gum on peach

When a thick mass appears, special attention is paid to wounds, cracks. The glue is thoroughly cleaned to living tissue. Make a working solution: 100 grams of copper sulfate are added to 10 liters of liquid. Treat wounds, cracks. As soon as the trunk dries, it is whitened with the composition: copper sulfate, clay, lime. Next, determine the cause of the disease and eliminate it.

They also treat wounds with garden pitch. It prevents rotting and drying out. Large wounds are covered with clay with mullein.If fungal diseases are the provocateur of the disease, Horus is used - a drug of systemic action. Phytoferm is used in the fight against plum codling moth.

How to prevent gum disease

Gummosis can be avoided. To do this, a number of comprehensive measures are being taken:

  1. Use hardy peach varieties in cold regions.
  2. Choose the right soil, acidity level.
  3. Before wintering, the soil is insulated with spruce branches, the trunk is wrapped with paper, planks. Fencing and insulation will warn against attack by rodents, temperature changes in the spring.
  4. Carry out comprehensive measures against diseases and pests.
  5. Trees are whitewashed in time to prevent burns.
  6. Peach nutrition should be balanced.
  7. During pruning, the tool is disinfected and the cuts are treated with garden pitch.
  8. From fungal diseases rub the trunk with oxalic leaves. After drying, they are treated with garden pitch. The procedure is repeated three times.
  9. In the spring, when the buds swell, the trees are sprayed with Bordeaux liquid or blue vitriol.
  10. Fufanon is used from beetles as soon as they start to fly. Thoroughly moisten the trunks, branches.

After such procedures, the tree will not suffer.
