Often during and after childbirth, animals experience complications - the uterus does not contract actively enough, the afterbirth does not leave for a long time, which increases the risk of infection of the reproductive organ, a bacterial infection joins. In such cases, veterinarians prescribe drugs that stimulate labor. Means "Uteroton" is used for goats, pigs, cows, sold in veterinary pharmacies.

Description of the drug "Uteroton"

Uteroton is a solution for intravenous or intramuscular injection containing propranolol hydrochloride. It belongs to the group of stimulators of contractile activity of the myometrium (the muscular uterine layer).After administration, the goat activates its own oxytocin, a hormone responsible for contracting the muscles of the uterus, producing colostrum and moving it through the milk ducts to the nipple. Also, the drug has a powerful anti-stress effect.

Sold in 100 ml glass containers as a ready-to-use solution for injection (it does not need to be diluted with anything).

When used

Uteroton goats are prescribed under the following conditions:

• stimulation of labor activity in case of diagnosed atony (loss of uterine muscle tone), hypotension (weak uterine tone), prevention of untimely discharge of the placenta;
• the impossibility of contracting the uterus to its original size after childbirth due to damage (viral or mechanical etiology);
• in the complex treatment of endometritis (inflammation of the uterine layer of a bacterial nature) after childbirth;
• increasing fertility with artificial insemination or before mating.

Usually "Uteroton" is prescribed by a veterinarian if a goat has problems during childbirth, or after them the afterbirth is delayed. But experienced farmers who know the characteristics of specific goats can apply the drug on their own.

Instructions for use in veterinary medicine for goats

Goats are most often injected with "Uteroton" intramuscularly, unless the condition is acute and does not require immediate injection into a vein. The dosage is calculated by the veterinarian and depends on the weight of the animal. A dose of 10 ml is usually used for cattle, goats need 5 ml of the drug. According to the instructions, "Uteroton" is applied as follows:

• to stimulate contractions and increase the tone of the uterine muscles - enter once before childbirth;
• in case of untimely discharge of the placenta - give injections every 12 hours three times;
• with non-contraction of the uterus and the development of endometritis to accelerate the release of inflammatory exudate - three times, once a day, as part of complex treatment;
• when mating to increase fertility - once half an hour before the procedure.

The product is precisely dosed and injected using a disposable sterile syringe. You can not violate the scheme of use, because this medicine loses its effectiveness. If a farmer forgets to give a goat another injection on time, it should be done as soon as possible, but not to give a double dose as compensation for the missed time.

Side effects of the remedy

Uteroton rarely causes side effects unless the goat is allergic to the active ingredient of the drug.

In the event of an allergic reaction, the drug is replaced with another containing a different active substance, an antihistamine is given and symptomatic treatment is carried out.

If the Uteroton dosage has been exceeded, the goat may develop the following symptoms:

• decrease in heart rate;
• bronchospasm;
• pressure drop;
• muscle weakness.

Due to a severe overdose, the animal's heart may beat less than 50 times per minute, requiring immediate treatment with Atropine, Izadrin, or Orciprenaline 2.

Drug contraindications

Uteroton should not be used during pregnancy if the goat is not yet preparing for childbirth - this will provoke a miscarriage. Also, do not prescribe drugs that increase the contractile activity of the uterus if the fetus is not positioned correctly, when it comes out legs forward.

During the feeding of a newborn kid, the use of "Uteroton" (with a delay in the afterbirth and the development of endometritis) is allowed only under the supervision of a veterinarian. It is not recommended to prescribe the remedy to young animals.

Expiration date and storage rules

"Uteroton" is stored in a room with a temperature regime of no more than +5 … +25 ^оС, separately from animal feed, without opening the original packaging. The medicine should not be exposed to direct sunlight. You can store the product for 36 months from the date of production, after which it is prohibited to use it. If the package has already been opened, the drug is valid for no more than two weeks, the remains should be disposed of.

Are there any analogues?

Drugs similar to "Uteroton" should also contain substances that stimulate the contractile activity of the uterus. In veterinary use:
