Mustard cake: indications for the use of fertilizer and how to use it correctly

The use of organic fertilizers for your own summer cottage is becoming more popular among gardeners. Such products are safer, they are able to increase the resistance of plants to diseases and pests, improve the composition of the soil. For example, the use of mustard cake has a positive effect on the quality of potatoes, protects plantings from insects. Description of mustard cake

Mustard has long been known as an oilseed, used as a spice suitable to improve the taste of meat dishes, added to homemade canned vegetables.

At the dacha, Sarepta mustard is used as green manure - a plant that can improve soil quality and rid the area of weeds. Due to the high content of essential oils in the stem and leaves of the plant, it is able to protect plantings from pests, fungal and bacterial infections.

Mustard pomace is the pressed parts of a plant left after oil extraction. In it, the concentration of essential oils is much higher than in growing mustard. The fertilizer contains mineral elements useful for plants, fatty acids. As a top dressing, cake is used, which remains after cold pressing of the oil.

As a result of repeated (hot pressing), it turns out not useful, but dangerous fertilizer, such cake cannot be used in the garden. Under the influence of high temperature, solvents are formed in such cake, which are quite toxic compounds.

Oilseed waste is carefully dried and ground. The finished homogeneous substance is able to disinfect the soil due to the phytoncides contained in it. Fertilizer protects vegetable beds from:

• wireworm;
• nematode;
• Colorado potato beetle;
• scoops;
• carrot and onion flies.

It improves soil structure by reducing soil clodiness, is used for mulching plantings, protects plants from fungal and bacterial infections, and prevents weeds. Protects the site from the bear and rodents.

When planting, a teaspoon of cake (15-20 grams) is placed in the hole, sprinkled with 5 centimeters of earth, then the plant is planted.

Root improvement

When planting carrots, radishes in a summer cottage, lightly sprinkle the rows with cake before planting the seeds in the soil. Enough 1-2 tablespoons of fertilizer per square meter.

Feeder for potatoes

It is placed in the hole when planting potatoes, a tablespoon under each tuber, sprinkled with earth on top so that the potatoes do not touch the fertilizer. Mustard cake can be used in conjunction with wood ash, Fitosporin. An overdose of the drug is almost impossible, but it is better to follow the manufacturer's recommendations, available on each package with the substrate.

Greenhouse

In the greenhouse, cake is used after harvest. Mixing with soil allows you to disinfect the soil, preparing it for the next season. Use 20-40 grams of funds per square meter. Fertilizer is sprinkled on the beds, after which the soil is loosened. The soil should be slightly damp.

When planting in a greenhouse, fertilizer is not added to the holes - high temperature and humidity can cause the substrate to mold.

From pests

The product is able to protect berry bushes (raspberries, black and red currants), vegetables from pests. In this case, it is scattered around the bush (20 grams) or used as mulch on the beds.

Work should be done with rubber gloves. Afterwards, wash your hands thoroughly. The product is not dusty, does not belong to toxic compounds and does not harm beneficial insects on the site.

When can't cake be used?

Mustard belongs to the cruciferous family, so the cake is not used to fertilize any kind of cabbage, turnip, arugula. It is not used on marshy and acidic soils, as it can increase the acidity of the soil.

How to store biofertilizer?

Store mustard cake in dry, well-ventilated rooms, away from direct sunlight. The packaging must be tightly closed; the package must contain information about the name and purpose of the fertilizer. Do not contain near food, feed and animal supplements. When properly stored, the fertilizer has an unlimited shelf life.

What can I replace?

Instead of mustard cake, you can use mullein (manure mixed with water in a ratio of 1:5 and infused for 2-3 weeks), pine litter. You should choose well-rotted brown needles. It is also an effective organic fertilizer that can improve the quality of the soil, its structure and saturate the soil on the site with the necessary trace elements.
