Tomato Summer Sun: description and characteristics of the variety, yield with photo
The Summer Sun tomato belongs to a variety of cherry varieties and among gardeners was called the Summer Sun, which emphasizes the main feature of the fruit in the form of a bright saturated yellow color. The variety was appreciated by connoisseurs of tomato varieties and 1 kg of seeds from the Israeli manufacturer Hazera Genetics was sold for $350,000.
The description refers the plant to indeterminate species, the height of the bushes can reach 2 meters, so the shoots need to be tied up. The advantages of the variety are high yields. During the fruiting period, the brushes are strewn with small-sized tomatoes, which hang down in numerous clusters and create the effect of a wall of vegetables.
Gardening culture belongs to varieties with an average ripening period, but in the Russian regions it is suitable for late fruiting. The plant is distinguished by a special form of leaves, which is more reminiscent of potato plates. When broken, a specific pleasant aroma is felt.
Features of fruits
The variety belongs to high-yielding varieties. Shoots form numerous ovaries, in which a large number of tomatoes are formed. Characteristics of tomatoes:
- diameter 2.5-3 cm;
- neat round shape;
- content of 7 to 8 fruits in the brush;
- weight of one fruit up to 30 grams.
Tomatoes have a bright amber color and create a glowing effect from the inside. The fruits have a rich tomato flavor and smell. Tomatoes are dense vegetables and have a strong skin. The pulp has a fleshy texture, keeps its shape when cut and does not allow the contents to spread.
Due to the high sugar content, tomatoes have a sweetish aftertaste. When grown in a closed structure, the taste of fruits is slightly reduced. Gardeners' reviews say that you should wait until the tomato is fully ripe to get vegetables with a full range of flavors.
The presence of an increased amount of antioxidants, tomato strengthens the body and prevents various diseases.
Recommendations for care and cultivation
Work with the Sun begins in March and continues until mid-April. The time is determined so that from 60 to 65 days have passed before the time of disembarkation. The diameter of the container for planting should not exceed 10 cm in diameter. The soil is chosen fertile, neutral soil is considered optimal. When self-made, sand, turf, peat, humus, charcoal are mixed in equal parts.
When planting, the seeds are buried no more than 4 cm. The optimum temperature for growing seedlings is considered to be from 24 to 30 ⁰C. The plant is demanding for a sufficient amount of heat and light, with a lack of thinning and stretching.
The first shoots appear on the 6th day after planting. Watering is provided moderately, both excessive moisture and drought negatively affect the growth of seedlings. Dive is carried out after the appearance of 4 leaves, transplanting seedlings into a container with a volume of not more than 500 ml. For a better formation of the root system, it is recommended to pinch the ends of the shoots.
In the place of permanent cultivation, seedlings are planted after the threat of frost has passed. To do this, deepenings of 10 cm are formed in the soil and planting is carried out at a distance of at least 1 meter. Up to 3 plants should be planted per 1 m2. After planting, the seedlings must be well moistened.Shoots are formed in 1 or 2 main stems, otherwise, due to the large amount of green mass, yields will be reduced.
The variety is considered a capricious plant and requires proper care. The plant does not tolerate lack of moisture. The best time for watering is morning and moisture should be applied under the root. Contact with water on the leaves is fraught with sunburn.
High humidity should not be provoked when growing in greenhouse conditions, the presence of a level of up to 50-60% is considered an unfavorable factor and increases the risk of developing pathogenic plant lesions. To eliminate the danger of the appearance of diseases, constant monitoring is necessary, and at the first signs of a diseased plant, it must be eliminated. Timely action will prevent infection of all plantings.
