Thiram: instructions for use and composition of the fungicide, dosage and analogues
Plant diseases can significantly reduce the yield and its quality, and sometimes can destroy all plantings right on the vine. To avoid this, numerous fungicides are used, that is, substances designed to fight infectious agents. Among them, a special place is given to "Thiram" - a broad-spectrum contact fungicide from the chemical class of dithiocarbamates.
Composition and formulation
Tiram fungicide, or TMTD is a protective and therapeutic drug of contact action. Its active substance - tetramethylthiuram disulfide - is used in agriculture as a means to combat plant damage. It is a white or slightly tinted crystalline substance, odorless, insoluble in water.
Preparative form "Tirama" is a 40% suspension concentrate, which can also be referred to as 40% water-suspension concentrate or 40% flowable paste. All these names hide a colloidal solution with the consistency of liquid sour cream. The method of preparation of the working solution and the concentration are always indicated on the packaging of the treater. Instructions must be followed carefully.
How the product works
"Thiram" is a contact drug, which means that it does not penetrate into plants and does not accumulate in them. But on the surface of foliage and fruits, as well as on seeds, it can remain active for up to one and a half months. At the same time, it destroys pathogens of fungal diseases, preventing them from penetrating, multiplying and destroying plantings.
This feature of the product does not allow it to be used against pathogens of fungal infections that penetrate and develop inside the plant.
Use area
The drug "Thiram" is used as a dressing agent, which is used to treat seeds before sowing. It helps fight extremely dangerous root rots and molds that can destroy all crops or seedlings in the early stages of development.
"Thiram" is used for cereals grown for fodder or grain, as well as legumes and oil plants. Since the drug has the property of not decomposing for a long time and accumulating in soil and water, it is not used to treat plantings, but is left as an effective seed dressing agent.
Instructions for the use of the drug "Thiram"
Recommended consumption rate of the working solution is 5-15 liters of suspension per ton. Processing once per season. The product is used on the following plants:
Crop name | Suspension application rate |
Corn | 3-4 liters per ton |
4-5 liters per ton of seeds | |
3 liters | |
8 liters | |
3-4 liters | |
Soybeans | |
The working solution must be prepared immediately before use. Since the agent is a colloidal suspension, during storage it can easily delaminate and lose its useful qualities. The rules for the preparation and storage of the composition apply to a pure solution of "Tiram" and to tank mixtures with it, as well as to preparations containing tetramethylthiuram disulfide.
Safety
The drug "Thiram" and fungicides, which include TMTD, are classified as hazard classes 2 and 3, so they must be treated with extreme caution and care. The product is also dangerous for bees, fish and animals. When working with it, you must adhere to the following rules:
- Work only in protective clothing, goggles and a respirator.
- Some people may experience an allergic reaction to Thiram and preparations containing it when wearing rubber products, so it is better to use latex gloves and non-rubber shoes.
- Do not smoke, drink or eat while working.
- The main substance is incompatible with alcohol. Its use can lead to the development of severe poisoning. "Thiram" and its derivatives are poisons with lipotropic action, affect the liver, kidneys, cause headaches, nausea, pressure drops and heart rhythm disturbances.
- Contact with the skin of the drug provokes the development of dermatitis, and in the eyes - conjunctivitis. If this happens, rinse quickly with plenty of clean water and seek immediate medical attention.
After using Thiram, you should immediately change clothes and take a shower. The slightest deterioration in well-being should be a reason to visit a medical institution, since the drug can cause death if swallowed. The lethal dose is halved when drinking alcoholic beverages.
Fungicide compatibility
Thiram is non-phytotoxic and can be used in mixtures with most other fungicides and seed treatments. The agent does not inhibit the growth of nodule bacteria and does not reduce the activity of fertilizers based on bacteria. If you plan to use bacterial fertilizers, you need to treat the seeds with Tiram before applying them.
Storage conditions and expiration date
Store the drug in the original or labeled tightly closed container, in a dark and dry place, protected from sunlight. It is forbidden to keep the product near medicines, food, animal feed. It is best to store Tiram and similar substances away from living quarters.
Storage temperature is between +15 and +35 degrees Celsius. The shelf life of the drug is 3 years.
What can replace
Agriculture uses a lot of products containing TMTD. Among them, the most famous are the following:
- Vitavax.
- Vitalon.
- Vitaros.
- Granuflo.
- He althy Earth.
- He althy Lawn and many more.
The danger of the drug requires increased attention when using it, but, if the rules are followed, negative consequences can be successfully avoided.
