Torch - a tomato that does not take up much space in the garden due to the compactness of the bushes. Its positive qualities are high productivity and undemanding care. Many vegetable growers are happy to grow this variety in their beds.

General information

The variety was bred by breeders from Moldova and is intended for growing in greenhouses or greenhouses. In the southern regions Fakel can also be grown in open ground.

Tomato belongs to the group of mid-season vegetables with high yield.Bushes of determinate type, compact, sprawling. The vegetative mass grows rapidly and in large volume. The plant got its name due to the shape of the bush - narrow at the base and significantly expanding upwards like a torch.

Bushes of medium foliage, shoots are low, erect, up to 0.8 m high. Bushes require partial pinching. For better ripening of the crop, bushes should be formed into no more than 3 stems. The foliage is large, simple, dark emerald in color. The ovaries are collected in racemose inflorescences of 5 - 7 pieces. The first ovary usually develops above 6 - 7 leaves.

Ripening fruits are rounded, smooth without signs of ribbing. The color of a ripe tomato is bright scarlet, the weight of one fruit is up to 100 g. In the context of a ripe tomato, there are 4-5 chambers with seeds. The fruits are juicy, pleasant to the taste. The skin is quite dense, but not thick, not prone to cracking.

When harvesting, the fruits are separated from the inflorescences without stalks. Ripe tomatoes can be used fresh, canned, make delicious tomato juice.

Ripe tomatoes are well tolerated by transportation over long distances, can be stored in a cool place for quite a long time.

The description of the Fakel variety will be incomplete without mentioning the yield. On 1 m2 you can plant at least 5 - 6 bushes of the variety, and up to 10 kg of ripe tomatoes are harvested per season from each. To achieve such a yield, tomatoes should be regularly watered and fed.

The characteristic of tomatoes includes a mention of the resistance of the Fakel variety to diseases. With regular watering (especially in dry weather), the bushes are practically not susceptible to disease. But one has only to forget about watering for some time in the heat, as the plant can be affected by vertex rot, the tomatoes will begin to crack and rot.

Pros and cons of the variety

The positive qualities of the variety include:

  • compact bushes;
  • high yield;
  • versatility of ripe fruits;
  • tomatoes are not prone to cracking;
  • crop tolerates transportation well;
  • excellent presentation and good taste of ripe tomatoes.

There are no special disadvantages for the Fakel tomato variety. Minor shortcomings include the prolongation of fruiting in time and the need for partial pinching of bushes.

Growing Nuances

This variety is grown in seedlings in most regions.

Seed material should be planted at home two months before the planned transplant to a greenhouse or hotbed. The earth in the container is prepared in advance, mixing sod and garden soil in equal parts. The seeds are deepened by 1 - 1.5 cm, the soil is moistened from above with a spray gun.

Capacities are placed in heat until abundant shoots appear. Then the temperature in the room should be reduced, and the plants should be moved to a sunny place. When the seedlings have 2 - 3 permanent leaves, they should be picked into separate cups.

The seedlings are transplanted into the greenhouse in the second decade of May, when 6-7 permanent leaves appear on the plants. The distance between the bushes in a row is about 0.5 m, and the row spacing is 0.65 m. Bushes can not be formed, but it is better to remove the lower leaves and deformed ovaries in the inflorescences.
