Vineta Potato: description and characteristics of the variety, planting in open ground with a photo
For Russian gardeners, Vineta's German potatoes became available in the early 2000s. In 2001, it was included in the register of the Russian Federation as a variety suitable for zoning in two districts: Central and North Caucasian. By appointment canteen, early. Popular in both large farms and small household plots. In some sources it is designated "Veneta".
Distinctive features of the bush and tubers
Derived by German breeders in African Morocco. Plants are spreading with light green foliage. Waviness of the leaves is weak or medium. Flowering in small white corollas with a bright yellow center.Stems are straight, ribbed. Plant height - 0.7 m. Full growing season - 70-75 days.
Description of Vineta potato tubers:
- oval-round or oblong;
- average weight 60-90g;
- Vineta root crops are devoid of external and internal defects;
- eyes on the skin are slightly visible;
- starch content 12-15%.
Vineta potatoes have been laboratory tested and meet all international quality standards.
The flesh and peel of the fruit are yellow, almost identical in color. A kind of mesh is barely noticeable on the peel. Varietal features of potatoes - retains its color during heat treatment, does not boil soft. Main purpose: salads, frying, french fries, roasting in general. Taste reviews are high.Good keeping quality (87%) and marketability (up to 97%) are noted.
Growing conditions
Potatoes are genetically resistant to prolonged droughts. The Vineta variety is quite popular in Central Asia, where the climate is not entirely favorable for growing potatoes. Not prone to the following diseases:
- leaf curling;
- golden nematode;
- mosaic viruses (banded, wrinkled);
- potato crawfish.
Susceptible to late blight in wet, damp weather.
Vineta potato variety is undemanding to soil composition. Gives high yields on infertile, poorly fertilized soils. Prefers well-lit places. It reacts to the increased content of nitrogen in the soil by increasing the tops, which delays the harvest.It is not recommended for cultivation in places with constant moisture stagnation and on heavy clay soils.
Good for beginner gardeners and gardeners with little experience in growing potatoes. The first digging of the Vineta potato variety is done 45 days after germination.
Preparing tubers for planting
To reduce the growing season, potato tubers are germinated. To do this, the selected material is scattered in an even layer in a room with t +15 ° C. The humidity level is at least 90% so that the potatoes do not dry out.
The place is chosen bright, so that the "eyes" grow faster. At this stage, all rotten, clumsy root crops are rejected. Leave small potatoes weighing no more than 70 g.
The process of germination of Vineta potatoes lasts about a month. The first sprouts will appear in 15-16 days. Seeds are treated with growth preparations:
- Planrizome.
- Poteitin.
- Epin.
Processing is carried out a day before planting. To disinfect tubers, Vineta potatoes are sprayed with a solution of manganese, copper sulfate or wood ash.
If there is little seed, then the tubers are cut into slices 3 days before planting. 2-3 sprouts are left in each part. The minimum weight of each share is 35 g. Divided tubers are dried with cuts up.
Open ground planting and care
Vineta's early ripe variety is planted in early May. Work is carried out in dry weather after precipitation. Humus and ash are used as fertilizer, which are planted in the aisle. Seeds are placed at a depth of 7-10 cm. Between bushes leave 55-60 cm, between ridges 40 cm.
Potato shoots of the Vineta variety appear 10-12 days after planting the germinated material. 5-6 days before that, the first harrowing of the field is carried out. In small areas, a rake is used, in large areas - a cultivator. Harrowing will destroy the filamentous shoots of weeds, loosen and saturate the soil with moisture. Post-emergence harrowing is carried out several times.
For the formation of more tubers with high commercial properties, potatoes are spudded. During the season, they make several approaches:
- Stem height over 5 cm. Earth mound to protect young plants from external factors.
- The height of the stems is 15-20 cm. Before the corollas appear, the potatoes are spudded a second time.
It is possible to carry out additional hilling when the stems of the bushes are too long.
Vineta needs artificial watering if the soil has dried out deeper than 8 cm. In regions with hot and dry summers, in the absence of irrigation, it is not necessary to hill potatoes.
Except for spring fertilizers, additional dressings are usually not produced. If the soil is poor, then support with liquid organic matter is possible. Before flowering, potash fertilizers can be applied.
Pest control and harvesting
Vineta is rarely affected by diseases, which marks the description of the variety. Susceptibility to phytophthora is compensated by proper agricultural technology and care. Do not allow furrows to be overgrown with weeds, observe the rules of crop rotation. The best predecessors for early potatoes are: cabbage, cucumbers, onions, any legumes. It is permissible to plant after corn, root crops (carrots, beets, turnips).
Some gardeners carry out preventive spraying of Vineta potatoes with preparations:
- Acrobat.
- Ridomil-gold.
Fungicides will prevent the development of spores of dangerous fungi.
A potato field will be protected from the activity of the Colorado potato beetle by planting legumes along the edge of the plot. There are many known volatile plants, the smell of which repels pests: marigolds, parsley, peppermint, geranium. Striped beetles are eaten by sparrows, starlings, crows and domestic chickens.
The main characteristics of Vineta in many properties resemble the German variety Adretta. Interestingly, earlier yellow potatoes were used only for animal feed. The varieties presented by the breeders made a splash and became the best among the premium class.
The disadvantages of the Vineta variety include the spread of stolons at a great distance from the mother liquor. When harvesting potatoes, this can cause some inconvenience.
With massive wilting of the tops of the Vineta potatoes, they mow. The peel on the tubers at this time becomes rougher, which helps to avoid damage during harvesting. Before laying the crop in storage, the potatoes are dried, sorted, and the injured fruits are rejected.
