Gardeners got acquainted with Baikonur grapes recently. The variety became available for purchase only in 2012. But its price was frightening: it greatly exceeded the cost of analogues. Today Baikonur occupies a worthy place in summer cottages. Gardeners appreciated its characteristics at its true worth. Dark blue brushes delight with taste.

History of selection

The variety was obtained by an amateur breeder Pavlovsky E. G. For work, he chose two popular grapes - Beauty and Talisman. The result combines all the advantages of the original varieties.

Variety description

Any grower will recognize this species at first sight. It is unique and attracts attention. Variety description provided by the author:

  • bush vigorous;
  • vine strong, developed;
  • vine matures in one season;
  • grown as own root or as a scion;
  • bright green leaf;
  • root system is highly developed;
  • lack of peainess (the berry does not shrink);
  • early ripening variety (105-115 days from awakening the vine to picking berries);
  • active shoot growth (requires regular chipping);
  • excellent cutting rooting (95%).

Baikonur is used by gardeners for making homemade wine and fresh consumption. There are no more complete data on the plant: work is underway to study the parameters.

Characteristic variety

The characteristic of Baikonur grapes allows you to distinguish its berries at a glance:

  • berries oval-elongated;
  • the mass of one comes to 18 g;
  • berry length up to 40 mm;
  • brushes loose, lush;
  • brush weight 700g;
  • sugar content 20%;
  • acidity 7% (practically disappears during storage);
  • watery pulp;
  • the taste of berries has a fruity tinge;
  • the skin is thin, dense;
  • frost resistance down to -23 degrees Celsius.

The Baikonur variety has excellent marketability: the fruits remain attractive for 2-3 months after harvest. Grapes are easy to transport over long distances. This is convenient for gardeners who grow berries for sale.

Features of cultivation

The attractiveness of the Baikonur variety is unpretentiousness. But it has cultivation features.

Soil selection

Baikonur intensively bears fruit on loose, nutritious soils. Recommended before boarding:

  • check soil acidity (requires neutral, slightly alkaline or slightly acid reaction);
  • too acidic soils are recommended to be deoxidized (add lime, dolomite flour);
  • clear the prepared site from weeds;
  • heavy soils require sanding, sandy - claying;
  • achieve the required soil structure: it must be loose, moisture and breathable;
  • assess the level of groundwater (water should be no higher than 3-4 m).

You need to prepare a landing pit in advance. Its size: 70 cm x 70 cm x 70 cm. The soil is removed and neatly folded next to the pit. Drainage is poured down. Backfill thickness - 7-10 cm. Broken brick, expanded clay, pieces of paving slabs are suitable.

The soil is then mixed with mature organic matter and mineral complex and returned to its place.

It is recommended to prepare a hole in the spring with the planned autumn planting and in the fall - with the spring one.

Landing

It is recommended to place Baikonur in a permanent place in early spring (after the soil thaws in March) or in mid-autumn (early October). During spring planting, the soil temperature should be 7-10 degrees Celsius. In autumn, planting should be 2-3 weeks before the onset of a steady cooling. During this time, the bush will have time to take root well.

Planting the plant is required in the planting hole. Its size should be sufficient to accommodate the root system. The hole must be well watered. Pour a mound of earth at the bottom and arrange the roots around it. Add soil gradually. Seal the trunk circle. Landing should be mulched.

Reproduction

Baikonur is propagated by cuttings or grafting. Any variety is suitable for rootstock, except for Rumba. For cuttings choose a mature vine (2 years of life). The length of the process is 7-15 cm. The upper part of the cutting (just above the eye) is cut off and filled with wax or paraffin. The lower part is cut off at an angle of 45 degrees and dipped in any root stimulator.

The stalk is stuck at an angle into moistened soil and covered with a film with holes for oxygen access. After 1-2 months, the vine will take root. Young grapes are ready for planting in a permanent place. Rooting Baikonur is best in early spring (early March): then the bush will have time to grow a good root system over the summer.

Care policy

Grapes need proper care. It is recommended to follow the advice of agronomists.

Irrigation and fertilization

The Baikonur variety has a developed root system. It should be moistened only during prolonged drought. It is recommended to water infrequently, but plentifully.

Grapes respond with increased yields to the application of mineral and organic fertilizers. Mineral complexes are added to the soil in spring and autumn according to the instructions. Mature organics (humus, compost) - only in the spring. Application rate - a bucket for 1 plant.

Cutting

Data on Baikonur's formative pruning are not available. Gardeners are encouraged to use well-known schemes. Grapes need brightening pruning and chipping.

Advantages and disadvantages of the variety

The Baikonur variety is called by some gardeners the best among universal varieties. Its Benefits:
