In the summer, it is important not only to get the vitamins the body needs, but also to keep most of the fruits for future use. Preparations for the winter are a great opportunity to enjoy the taste of summer in the cold season. There are many ways to stock up on fruits and vegetables. Fruits canned, frozen, s alted, fermented. Canning is the most popular of them. At the same time, careful sterilization of dishes is a prerequisite for storing most blanks. A convenient but little-known trick is sterilizing dishes and jars in a slow cooker.

Can I sterilize jars in a slow cooker?

Any hostess knows that for successful storage of ready-made canned food, the jars in which they are located must be sterilized. This is done in several ways:

  1. In the oven.
  2. On the stove.
  3. In the microwave.
  4. In the slow cooker.

The first three methods are often used by housewives, but few people know that you can do this in a slow cooker. It is possible to sterilize glassware for conservation using such a device. In addition, this process is easier than on the stove.

The advantage of the multicooker is that it can carry out not only the preliminary heat treatment of containers, but also the sterilization of cans with blanks.

This procedure can be carried out in the device of any model and with a minimum number of programs.

How is the process?

When sterilizing dishes, it is important to follow a few basic rules:

  • jars used must be intact, without defects;
  • wash dishes before heat treatment using detergent, as well as baking soda or dry mustard powder;
  • after that, thoroughly rinse the glassware with running water.

Next, to sterilize jars in a multicooker, you should install a steam cooking grate above the bowl. Clean dry jars are placed on it with the neck down.

Pre-grid, as well as the bowl itself must be thoroughly washed with detergent, but without soda.

Pour 2 cups of water at room temperature into the bowl and turn on the appliance in the "Steam" mode.

If there is no such program, then you can use any other program that allows you to quickly boil water in the bowl.

Usually 2-3 small cans are placed on the wire rack. During the procedure, the top cover does not close. Banks in 0.5 liters are sterilized for 7-8 minutes, liter jars for 15-20 minutes.

After the specified time, hot clean jars are removed, placed on a clean towel with their necks up. Fill with the prepared product when they have cooled slightly.

Sterilization of blank jars

Many recipes indicate that after filling the container with a blank, it needs additional sterilization.

This procedure for processing finished cans in a slow cooker is also easier and faster than on the stove or in the oven.

First place a clean cloth or towel in the bottom of the bowl. This is done so that the glassware does not burst during processing. Jars with blanks are placed on top, They are covered with lids sterilized in boiling water.

Water at room temperature is carefully poured into the bowl of the multicooker to the level of the “shoulders” of the cans.

Next, you need to turn on the device in the mode of any program that provides heating up to 100 degrees. Usually 10 minutes is enough for 0.5 liter jars, 15-20 minutes for liter jars.

After the time has elapsed, the jars are carefully removed, the lids are rolled up. After that, it is advisable to turn the preserved dishes over and put them in a safe place, covering them with something warm (a blanket, a blanket).

Compliance with the general rules of sterilization will allow you to save blanks for the future without problems.
