Herbicide Gambit: instructions for use, mechanism of action and consumption rates
Chemical weeding helps remove weeds from crops. Herbicides provide long-term protection against weeds, increase yield and fruit quality. Gambit is a soil herbicide of systemic action, which, when the processing regulations are followed, does not adversely affect crops and does not cause resistance.
Gambit active ingredient
The active component of the herbicide is prometrin. The substance is a representative of the class of triazines, developed in the 50s of the 20th century in Switzerland. In Gambit is found in a concentration of 500 grams per liter.
Prometrin is one of the most demanded herbicides of this class; many drugs have been created on its basis. It has a soil effect, therefore it is most effective in the early stages of weed development.
Note that the peak of popularity of triazines (and prometrin) occurred at the end of the last century. Now the use of this group of herbicides is gradually reduced.
Preparative form of the remedy
The drug is made in the form of a concentrated suspension, poured into plastic canisters of 5 and 10 liters.
Herbicide spectrum
Gambit is designed to destroy cereals and dicotyledonous weeds:
Grasses | Dicotyledons |
bristula | thistle (species) |
field mint | |
gill | |
string | |
field mustard | |
blue cornflower | medium asterisk |
white gauze | |
dope | |
highlander (species) | |
canary grass (species) | |
melilot (species) | |
mallow (species) | |
black nightshade | |
Veronica (species) | |
wild radish | |
shepherd's purse | |
Resistance to herbicide action is demonstrated by piculniki and bedstraws of different species.
Mechanism and speed of action
Action type - systemic. It enters sensitive plants from the soil (slightly through the foliage), through the root system and seedlings. Herbicide particles are carried through the conducting system to all tissues. Gambit suppresses activity:
- respiratory system;
- Chlorophyll formation processes - photosynthesis;
- inhibits the production and activity of enzymes.
It has the strongest effect at the stage of weed germination and within 4-7 days on young shoots. Young sprouts lose turgor, dry out and curl. After 1-2 weeks, weeds completely die.
Gambit speeds up the increased temperature of the soil and air. An additional plus is also soil moisture when spraying the herbicide before weeds begin to grow.
Protection period
The duration of the herbicide is affected by the weather - temperature, humidity. On average, the activity of the drug lasts 10-12 weeks.
Advantages and disadvantages
Let's note the properties of Gambit, which determine its relevance and popularity:
- sufficiency of one treatment - the protective effect lasts almost the entire growing season;
- no negative impact on soil and protected crops;
- decomposes during the season, does not limit the change of crops during crop rotation;
- wide range of protective action - effective against a large number of weeds;
- convenient formulation.
Gambit can be used at different times, its destructive effect on weeds can be seen in a week.
The drug is not expensive, field processing does not require high costs.
The herbicide is washed off by precipitation and when watered from the top layer of the earth to the lower level (up to a depth of 1.2 meters). Due to this, it can get into reservoirs and artesian waters, polluting them.
Consumption rate
When preparing the working mixture for spraying, adhere to the following standards:
Culture | Gambit in liters per hectare |
Corn, sunflower, potatoes (except early varieties) | 2-3.5 |
Carrots, except early varieties per bunch | 1-1.5 |
Peas (grain) | 2.5-3 |
Soybeans | 2.5-3.5
The working solution is used in the amount of 100-300 liters per hectare.
Preparing and using the working mixture
Prepare the solution immediately before use. Mixing work is carried out on compacted or concreted areas where the spill of the herbicide is not dangerous to the soil or plants.
The instructions for use indicate that the container with Gambit should be shaken vigorously beforehand to make the suspension homogeneous. Half the volume of water is poured into the sprayer tank and the required amount of herbicide is introduced during the operation of the hydraulic mixer.
The canister is washed several times with water, pouring it into the tank. Then add the remaining volume of water. During the spraying, the mixture must be constantly stirred, so the hydraulic mixer is not turned off.
Usage rules:
- Gambit's properties are better revealed at a temperature of 10-20 °;
- pollination timing - soil before sowing, at the time of sowing, before and when the first shoots appear;
- lower limits of the amount of herbicide are chosen for light fertile soils with a good degree of moisture;
- maximum concentration and volume of working solution is used on heavy dry soils;
- when cultivating crops on peat soils, they wait for sprouts to emerge;
- if the humidity is insufficient, it is better to bury the preparation in the soil (depth 2-5 centimeters);
- the soil should have a fine clod structure - large clods are broken, the remains of vegetation are removed.
The herbicide decomposes with the help of soil microorganisms, therefore, with a high content of humus in the soil, the upper volumes of the preparation are chosen.
Reference: it is recommended to loosen the crops after the death of the weeds, since if the soil is disturbed, the effectiveness of the herbicide is reduced.
Use safety
The herbicide belongs to the 3rd class of hazardous substances. When working with him, protective suits, masks, goggles are used. The solution is prepared at special sites, the remains of the mixture are disposed of.
After work, wash thoroughly with liquid products. When signs of poisoning appear, a person is taken out of the herbicide application area, clothes are removed, washed, and sorbents are given. If signs of toxicity persist, seek medical attention.
Phytotoxicity
Gambit has no negative effect on protected crops if consumption rates and regulations are observed.
Possibility of resistance
To avoid addiction in plants, when processing crops, it is recommended to change herbicides to preparations with other active ingredients.
Compatibility with other chemicals
Gambit can be used to make complex mixtures with other herbicides to increase efficiency and cover a wider range of weeds. Combined use with drugs containing C-metolachlor, trifluralin, acetochlor, and other active substances is allowed.
Before spraying on crops, the mixture is tested for toxicity on a small area.
Storage conditions and expiration date
Storage in back rooms for chemicals is recommended. Storage in a sealed container at temperatures from -5 ° to +35 °. With significant temperature drops, the herbicide should be transferred to another room, since it is impossible to freeze the preparation in order to avoid loss of properties.
Existing analogues
The wide demand for prometrin led to the creation of several drugs based on it, which are analogues of Gambit:
- Alfa-Prometrin, ALFACHEMGRUP;
- Gezagard - Syngenta, Switzerland;
- Gezadar, AGRus;
- Honor, AFD Chemicals;
- Pozitiv Plus, Chemagromarketing;
- Fortis, RosAgroKhim.
Prometrin content in all preparations is 500 grams per liter.
The use of soil herbicides prevents weeds from even appearing on the surface, they are destroyed in the bud. In order for Gambit to show all herbicidal properties, it is necessary to prepare the soil, apply the drug in the appropriate dosage in time. A single treatment of crops is required, the drug does not have a negative effect on the quality of the fruits.
