Cyfluthrin: in which preparations is present and instructions for use
The effectiveness of insecticidal preparations directly depends on the active ingredients that make up the chemicals. Some drugs with cyfluthrin are designed to control pests that affect seedlings, others are used for pre-sowing seed treatment. Means based on cyfluthrin are also used in veterinary medicine - to protect animals from parasites. Before using chemicals, be sure to read the instructions.
Release form and active substance of the drug
Cyfluthrin belongs to the chemical class of pyrethroid insecticides and household pesticides. It is not used as an independent substance; cyfluthrin is used in combination with other pesticides to treat seeds before planting in the ground.
The chemical is a white powder that has a subtle odor. Cyfluthrin is also produced in the form of a viscous brownish-yellowish liquid with a slight odor - this form is used to destroy parasites of farm animals.
For dressing seeds before planting in the ground, cyfluthrin is used in such insecticidal preparations as Modesto and Poncho Beta. The chemicals additionally include clothianidin at a concentration of 400 grams per liter. Both drugs are sold in the form of a suspension concentrate.
How and against what does it work?
The active substance cyfluthrin has a contact and intestinal action. It affects the nervous system of pests and causes overexcitation of parasites. As a result of this, a spasm of the muscles of insects and their subsequent death occurs. The main effect of the chemical is on the peripheral nervous system of pests, which is especially sensitive to the influence of insecticidal preparations.
In combination with clothianidin, cyfluthrin is used to kill a wide range of sugar beet pests, as well as to prevent cruciferous flea infestation in rapeseed. In the first case, it is recommended to use the Poncho Beta chemical agent, in the second, the Modesto drug demonstrates the greatest efficiency.
Cyfluthrin-based insecticidal preparations have a number of advantages, thanks to which they can effectively cope with the problem of crop pests.
Pros of chemicals include:
- high efficiency in pest control;
- speed of action due to the interaction of two active substances;
- long period of protection - from the moment of sowing the material into the ground until the appearance of two pairs of true leaves;
- equal efficiency in the destruction of both leaf-eating and soil pests;
- lack of phytotoxicity, subject to application rates and instructions for use;
- possibility of sharing with many means of protection (previously conduct a chemical compatibility test);
- high germination of seed after insecticide treatment.
Cyfluthrin-based preparations are intended for the treatment of crop seeds in factories, in private households are not recommended for use.
Instructions for the use of cyfluthrin
The application rate of the chemical depends on the type of insecticide and the crop to be seeded before planting.
Insecticide consumption rates are shown in the table:
Treated crop | Name insecticide | Preparation consumption | Amount of working fluid |
Sugar beet seeds | "Poncho Beta" | 25 to 50 | For a ton of seeds you will need from 30 to 60 liters of working fluid |
Modesto | From 12.5 to 25 | To process a ton of seed, use no more than 35 liters of working solution |
After using insecticidal preparations to dress the material, the seeds will be quite wet, so they need to be dried. Lay out the material in a thin layer or use special equipment. If this is not done, they will clump together and stick together, which will prevent even seeding.
Side effects
If you do not follow the safety measures when working with a chemical, it will lead to poisoning. Insecticide vapors are especially dangerous, they irritate the mucous membranes of the respiratory tract.
If the solution is accidentally swallowed, drink a few activated charcoal tablets (calculation depending on body weight - 1 tablet per 10 kg of a person's weight) and immediately contact the nearest medical facility for first aid.
If an insecticide gets into the eyes, rinse them with plenty of running water and visit the hospital, remembering to take the chemical label with them.
Contraindications for use
Cyfluthrin-based insecticidal chemicals should not be used on crops not listed in the instructions for use. Otherwise it will damage the seed.
Special instructions and measures for personal prevention
When working with chemicals containing cyfluthrin, it must be taken into account that it is especially dangerous for fish and other inhabitants of water bodies. It is impossible to pour the remains of the working fluid into rivers and lakes, so as not to provoke the mass death of fish. Dispose of the chemical in a safe manner.
Wear protective clothing when starting to treat seeds with insecticidal preparations to prevent droplets of liquid from falling on the skin, this can lead to dermatological problems and allergic reactions. The airways are protected with a respirator.
After finishing work with the chemical, be sure to take a shower with detergent and wash all work clothes, after which they hang them outside to air.
Are there any analogues?
You can replace drugs based on cyfluthrin with chemicals that contain other active ingredients. Popular tools include Goalkeeper, Matador and Gaucho.
