Currant Sevchanka: description of the black variety and characteristics, planting and care

Anonim

Blackcurrant variety Sevchanka is a culture of domestic selection. It is distinguished by an early ripening period and is recommended for cultivation in the Central Black Earth, Volga-Vyatka and Central regions. The plant is characterized by high yield, resistance to fungal infections and attacks of kidney mites. The culture belongs to self-fertile varieties, and therefore its yield is not affected by weather conditions and years of pollinating insects.

Description and characteristics of currant Sevchanka

Sevchanka currant variety is characterized by an early ripening period and high frost resistance.Bushes are able to withstand temperature fluctuations up to 35 degrees. Also, the plant is resistant to spring frosts, dry weather, powdery mildew. It is immune to rust, anthracnose and bud mites.

A distinctive feature of the plant is a stable annual yield. From 1 hectare it is possible to get up to 104 centners of currants. Berries are versatile.

The bushes of this variety are vigorous and slightly spreading. They are characterized by shoots of medium thickness and slightly curved shape. The berries are large and weigh 2-3.5 grams. They are black in color and have a glossy texture. When ripe, the fruits do not crumble.

History of selection

Blackcurrant Sevchanka was obtained by crossing seedlings of Golubka variety and form 32-77. The culture was bred at the All-Russian Research Institute of Lupin in the city of Bryansk. Currants entered the State Register in 1994.

Agricultural technology varieties

In order for blackcurrants to give a plentiful and high-quality harvest, they need to be properly looked after.

Site selection and landing technology

Culture requires a well-lit area and fertile soil. Therefore, it is recommended to choose flat places for landing. We also allow a slight slope. It is best to plant on the south or southwest side of the house.

Planting work is recommended in early spring or mid-September. The second option is considered more preferable.

Sevchanka does not grow well in sandy or clay soil. It is ideal for slightly acidic or neutral soil. In this case, groundwater should be no higher than 1 meter from the surface of the earth.

For planting currants, it is recommended to do the following:

  1. Pour 4-5 liters of water into the recess.
  2. Lay seedlings at a 45 degree angle. They need to be deepened by 3-4 kidneys.
  3. Gently spread the roots and sprinkle with soil.
  4. Lightly tamp the ground and pour another 4-5 liters of water.
  5. Mulch beds with peat or compost.

Water and fertilize

Currant needs a rare but plentiful watering. Stagnation of moisture can lead to the death of the bush. The plant needs to be watered in the spring - during the growing season, flowering, ovary formation. This should also be done at the stage of fruit ripening and after harvesting. Autumn watering is important. Under 1 bush, you need to pour 1 bucket of water.

In dry weather, it is required to moisten the soil once a week. In this case, the rate should be increased to 50 liters. In the presence of precipitation, currants can not be watered.

Shrubs older than 3 years need to be fed regularly. Nitrogen supplements should be applied in spring and autumn. Potassium and phosphorus are recommended to be used in the period from the beginning of flowering to fruiting. In the middle of summer, it is permissible to use an infusion of cow dung or bird droppings. It is required to pour 2-3 buckets under the bush.

In order for nutrients to gradually reach the root system of the plant, it is required to make a depression in the soil of 30-40 centimeters in size. 1-2 handfuls of top dressing should be added to the prepared hole, sprinkled with earth and watered well.

Protection from diseases and pests

Sevchanka's currant is characterized by stable immunity to powdery mildew, scab, rust fungus. She is also not afraid of aphids, kidney and spider mites. For prevention, the plant will have to arrange a hot douche. To do this, pour boiling water into a watering can and pour the bush on top. This allows you to get rid of kidney mites and scale insects.

Before bud break, it is required to spray the bushes with Bordeaux liquid. When a currant is infected with a glass case, it can be treated with Aktara, Fitoverm, Mospilan. For preventive purposes, you can throw a shovel of manure into the center of the bush.

Cutting and shaping

Currants need to be cut in early spring - before bud break. This should also be done in late autumn - after the leaves have fallen. Thanks to proper pruning, it is possible to achieve the correct formation of the bush, prevent its thickening, ensure the normal growth of young shoots, and avoid the development of pathologies.

The first pruning should be done after planting. In this case, you need to leave 3-4 main branches with 2-4 buds. Then in the spring you need to cut strong branches of the second order. They need to leave 4-8 kidneys. It is recommended to remove only weakened, diseased and affected annual shoots.

Winter period

Sevchanka is frost-resistant. In autumn, the soil needs to be loosened and mulched in the area around the trunk circle.

Reproduction

Currants can be propagated by cuttings or layering. In the first case, you need to cut the cuttings 20 centimeters long and 1 centimeter thick. The finished material should be wrapped in damp paper or film and placed in the refrigerator. In spring, branches can be planted in the ground at an angle of 45 degrees.

To propagate currants by layering near a bush, you need to dig a hole 11 centimeters deep, place a branch there and sprinkle it with earth. At the same time, 20-25 centimeters should remain outside. Layers need to be fixed and watered periodically. In autumn, the bush can be separated and transplanted to a new place.

Harvest and storage of crops

Currant ripens in late June or early July. The berries are characterized by friendly ripening, because they can be harvested at a time. Fruits are recommended to be put in a container in which they will be stored.

Sevchanka is a popular currant variety that gives a good harvest. In order for the cultivation of the crop to be successful, it is important to strictly adhere to the agrotechnical recommendations.
