Vivaldi strawberries: variety description and characteristics, planting and care rules

Anonim

When choosing garden strawberry varieties to grow in their gardens, gardeners pay attention to several important factors that strawberries must meet. This is, first of all, the yield and taste of fruits, as well as undemanding to agrotechnical care. All these characteristics correspond to the new development of Dutch breeders - a strawberry called Vivaldi.

Variety description

Vivaldi garden strawberry was bred by Dutch breeders and belongs to high-yielding varieties of medium ripening.For full development, the bushes do not require complex agrotechnical care, so Vivaldi is popular with both farmers who grow berries for sale and ordinary summer residents. In addition, the variety does not need pollination, as it is self-fertile and successfully cultivated both in open ground and in greenhouses. In heated structures, fruits are harvested almost until the first frosts.

Despite the fact that the variety appeared relatively recently on the beds of domestic gardeners (in 2015), it managed to gain popularity due to its advantages. Powerful bushes form large berries with a sweet taste and a pronounced strawberry aroma.

Short description

Dutch breeders in the description of the variety indicated the following characteristics of garden strawberries:

  1. The bushes are branched (which must be taken into account when disembarking), upright and quite powerful.The peduncles formed on them are below the level of the leaves, so the berry is hidden from the scorching sun, and besides, thanks to this feature, the fruits are rarely damaged by feathered pests.
  2. A lot of mustaches form on strawberries every year, so the process will have to be controlled so that they do not braid all the aisles.
  3. The berries have an attractive heart shape and have an average weight of 35 grams. By the time of full ripeness, they acquire a dark red saturated hue. The pulp of the fruit is juicy and moderately dense, the berries have good transportability, so the variety is often grown for sale on the market.
  4. On fertile soils and subject to proper care, about 1 kg of berries are harvested from one bush of garden strawberries, and the peak yield falls on the 2-3rd year of cultivation, then rejuvenation will be required.

Those growers who have already tested the Dutch variety in their gardens have identified several benefits of strawberries:

  • rich sweet taste and pleasant strawberry aroma;
  • self-fertile and high yield;
  • attractive berry appearance and good transportability;
  • drought resistance and winter hardiness;
  • strong immunity to most diseases of the culture and the possibility of self-propagation with the help of a mustache without losing the characteristics of the variety.

Dutch strawberries also have disadvantages, but they are minor:

  • declared yield is manifested exclusively on fertile soils or subject to constant fertilizing;
  • powerful and spreading bushes take up a lot of space in the garden;
  • need for permanent mustache removal.

Features of cultivation and care

Even a novice gardener can handle planting and caring for Vivaldi bushes, the main thing is to follow all the recommendations of the variety developers in time.

Landing

For planting garden strawberries, a sunny open area with fertile soil is selected. In the shade, the berries will also form, but they will be small and sour. As for the timing of planting, it can be either the spring months, after the soil warms up enough, or the end of summer, the beginning of autumn, so that the bushes have time to fully take root in a new place before the onset of the first cold weather.

The bed is dug up in advance and all the weeds are selected so that they do not take away food from young crops.Be sure to add humus at the rate of 8 kg per square of the garden and add azofoska (3 tablespoons). It is important that at least 2 weeks pass before planting the bushes.

Vivaldi strawberry planting algorithm:

  1. Make shallow holes at a distance of 60 cm from each other, maintain the same distance between rows.
  2. They put the bushes in the holes and carefully straighten the roots, fall asleep with fertile soil.
  3. Irrigate plants and mulch between rows to keep moisture in the soil longer.

Loosening, weed control

If mulch is laid around the garden strawberry bushes, this saves time on weeding and loosening the soil.Otherwise, the procedure is carried out after each irrigation or rain, so that the soil does not turn into a crust through which air cannot enter the root system. Weeds also need to be removed on time, otherwise they will drown out the strawberries.

Moustache removal

The whiskers are carefully trimmed from those bushes that are not planned to be used as uterine for reproduction. Be sure to do this with a sharp knife or pruner so as not to damage the plant.

Feeding

Fertilization is the main event that is carried out to obtain a high yield. In the spring, strawberries need compositions with a high nitrogen content; during flowering and fruiting, phosphorus and potassium fertilizers are used. Garden strawberries respond well to fertilizing with mullein or bird droppings diluted in water.

Pest and disease control

The Vivaldi variety has good immunity to diseases and pests, but prevention does not hurt. The set of measures includes the timely removal of plant waste from the site, planting marigolds in the immediate vicinity and sprinkling tobacco dust between rows.

Wintering

Due to its high frost resistance, the Vivaldi variety needs shelter only in the northern regions. To do this, use dry foliage, spruce branches or agrotextiles.

Subtleties of reproduction

Strawberry variety produces a sufficient amount of whiskers, which are used for breeding. In this case, it is recommended to cut off all flower stalks so that the nutrients get into the vegetative organs.

Harvesting and storage of crops

Berry picking begins in mid or late July (depending on the region). Store the fruits in the refrigerator in an enameled or plastic container, no longer than 5 days. If there is a lot of harvest, jams or compotes are made from it, and they are also frozen fresh.
