Tomato Ballada: characteristics and description of the variety with a photo

Determinant plants are increasingly attracting gardeners. Tomato Ballada pleases with a combination of high taste, a large number of fruits with a compact bush.

What is this?

The authors created a berry for open ground. If necessary, it can be planted in unheated plastic, film greenhouses. Plant Description:

• average ripening period (from germination to first harvest 120 days);
• berry dark red;
• fruit is round, slightly flattened;
• tomato grows up to 180 g.

In the southern regions, it has time to ripen before the onset of a steady cooling. In the Middle lane, the tomato needs to be planted in closed ground or under temporary shelters.

Distinctive features of the variety are excellent transportability, sufficient keeping quality of ripe fruits.

What attracts gardeners

Short-growing tomatoes traditionally yield less than tall ones. This scares off gardeners. But the Ballad is another matter. The bush takes up little space. It has a lot of large tomatoes.

In the description, the authors note:

• lack of a green spot in the stalk area;
• rough skin;
• juicy pulp;
• bright fragrance;
• sweet and sour taste;
• height <60 см;
• high productivity variety (total yield 9 kg/m²).

The first brush is tied over the 6th sheet. Has about 5 fruits. The plant is slightly overgrown with leaves. Does not require shaping, garters.

When growing the Ballad tomato in open ground, the soil should be mulched with rotted sawdust, mowed and dried grass. The berries will stay clean and will not rot.

Tomatoes are stretched in the greenhouse. The stems fall to the ground. When planting tomatoes, it is recommended to cover the bed with dark non-woven material (spunbond).

How to care

Determinant varieties require normal care:

• sowing seedlings from March 15 to March 20;
• germination in warmth (without access to light);
• after emergence, place on a cool window sill (temperature 18 ⁰C);
• additional supplementary illumination with an agrolamp;
• picking in phase 2 of true sheets;
• regular top dressing with mineral complexes for seedlings;
• landing in a permanent place in May (after the last frost);
• pattern: 40 cm x 50 cm (9 bushes/m²);
• watering in the morning at 3-5 l/plant;
• spraying with ovary stimulants;
• pre-flowering nitrogen application;
• fertilizing with mineral complexes until the milky ripeness of tomatoes;
• stop adding supplements a month before harvest;
• regular weeding, loosening the tomato.

Leaf plates of low-growing tomatoes are near the ground. When watering, drops of water wet them. There is a risk of fungal diseases. Drip irrigation will help save the crop. Moisture enters strictly under the root of each plant in the required amount.

The creators of the variety took care of resistance to the main types of diseases: TMV, top rot. Friendly return of fruits with competent agricultural technology, avoids the attack of phytophthora. Berries with a rich tomato flavor are good fresh. Not rough skin, juicy pulp allows you to make delicious canned food: salads, ketchups, pastas.

Tomato has high consumer characteristics. Transportability, keeping quality allow delivering fruits to the place of sale. The crop is quickly sold out in the market. Ballad is recommended for growing in summer cottages and farms.
