Every year there are new varieties of vegetable crops that surpass their "parents" in their qualities. So, quite recently, Ukrainian breeders of the Kirovograd Institute of Agro-Industrial Production of the UAAN brought out Slavyanka potatoes. Having passed all the tests, the variety began to be cultivated in the regions of Ukraine. Having proven itself from the best side, culture in 2009 came to the territory of Russia. From that moment, Slavyanka began a victorious march in all corners of our country. What is such a glory of the variety, we will tell today in this article.

Variety description

According to the originators, the Slavyanka variety belongs to mid-ripening crops. The growing season from planting to harvest is 100-120 days. Potatoes are quite productive. On average, from 100 sq. m comes out 300 kg of root crops. If you follow the rules of agricultural technology, this figure increases to 400 kg. At the same time, about 13 large tubers are formed in one bush, with a small amount of small things.

It is worth paying attention: A distinctive feature of the Slavyanka variety from similar crops is that all its fruits of a commercial appearance with a rich taste retain their qualities until next year.

Detailed variety description:

  • bushes - 50 cm high;
  • stems - very sprawling;
  • foliage - wavy, small size, dark green;
  • tuber shape - oval-elongated;
  • skin - thin, smooth, pink-purple;
  • eyes - small, superficial;
  • pulp - cream shade;
  • weight of one tuber - 100-180 g;
  • value - high content of water-soluble vitamins, proteins, pectin, amino acids.

According to its purpose, the Slavyanka variety belongs to table crops. Potatoes are well used in the preparation of soups, main courses and pastries. At the same time, all dishes are tasty and satisfying.

Growing

Variety Slavyanka undemanding culture. It adapts well to any climatic conditions, types of soil and lighting. Without proper care, potatoes give good yields. Due to such qualities, Slavyanka is ideal for lazy or novice gardeners.

However, in order to get record yields, experienced gardeners advise following the following growing rules:

  1. Potatoes are planted only in warm soil. The optimum temperature is +10-+12 degrees.
  2. Before planting, the soil is carefully dug up and cleared of weeds. Planting material is germinated and treated with special preparations.
  3. In the prepared soil, taking into account the distance of 35 cm in the row and 75 cm in the aisle, holes are formed with a depth of 10-15 cm.
  4. In the recesses, first, humus with wood ash is laid out one handful at a time, and then the seed is placed.

After planting potatoes, the holes are covered with earth. For uniform germination of tubers, it is recommended to shed the area using the airborne method.

Features of care

The characteristics of the variety Slavyanka indicate that with a minimum of effort in agricultural technology, the plant grows well almost throughout Russia. But in order to improve the quality of yields, in different phases of development, the culture will need to create favorable conditions.

Basic potato care is watering, mulching, weeding, hilling and spraying against pests.

General recommendations for agricultural practices:

  1. Watering the soil. Slavyanka, in comparison with similar tuberous plants, needs the least moisture. It is enough to irrigate the soil before the germination of sprouts, during the budding period and during the flowering of the crop.
  2. Soil mulching. During a long drought, it is recommended to spread a protective layer of rotted grass, foliage or needles between potato bushes.
  3. Weeding the site. The best option for removing weeds is the manual method. Using dry, the result of weeding will decrease several times. This is justified by the fact that in cut plants, the root system gives new shoots.
  4. Hilling bushes. This technique will increase the volume of loose soil for the development and growth of tubers. As a rule, the hilling of plants is carried out before the tops close up.
  5. Spraying potatoes. In order to avoid deformation of the bushes from pests and diseases, at the first sign of them, gardeners recommend immediately using pesticides.

When growing potatoes, do not forget about top dressing. Organic fertilizers together with mineral complexes will favorably affect not only the development of the plant, but also the formation of tubers.

Pros and cons

As mentioned above, the Slavyanka variety fell in love with gardeners not only in their homeland, but also in Russia. Among the main advantages of potatoes, summer residents distinguish:

  • friendly fruiting;
  • high yields;
  • taste and marketability of root crops;
  • unpretentiousness to weather conditions;
  • long shelf life;
  • versatility;
  • simple farming techniques;
  • good immunity to major tuber diseases.

Oddly enough, among such a large number of advantages, the Slavyanka variety has no significant drawbacks. The only thing worth paying attention to is that potato tubers are unstable to mechanical damage. Therefore, while digging the crop, you need to be extremely careful

Pests and diseases

Slavyanka potato variety is endowed with good resistance to diseases such as:

  • cancer;
  • alternariosis;
  • scab;
  • wrinkled mosaic;
  • powdery mildew.

Potatoes need special protection only from diseases such as late blight and bacterial wilt. As a rule, these diseases develop if the crop is grown several years in a row in the same area. Therefore, in order to prevent the occurrence of diseases, it is advisable to change the place for planting a variety every 2 years.

Among the pests that damage the plant, the Colorado potato beetle and potato flea should be highlighted. When these insects are found, gardeners recommend using folk remedies. With a strong invasion, it is necessary to apply chemicals such as ImidorPro, Previkur Energy, Inta-Vir.

Harvest and storage of crops

You can understand when you can start harvesting Slavyanka potatoes by the state of its tops and tuber skin. When the bushes of the plant begin to fade, it is recommended to dig one bush. If the skin of the tubers is strong, they start mass digging.

After the harvest is done, it is first given time to dry in the sun. After that, it is moved from rot, and sorted into planting and fodder material. The potatoes are then sent for further storage.

Currently, gardeners use different ways to store potatoes. It can be basements, cellars or cellars. Variety Slavyanka can be stored in any of the above options. The main thing is to follow a few rules:

  1. Crop storage must be clean, disinfected and ventilated.
  2. Recommended air temperature +1-+3 degrees.
  3. Humidity of the room is not lower than 80% and not higher than 95%.

Store potatoes in bags, boxes, or specially organized compartments.

So, having considered all the advantages, characteristics and description of the Slavyanka variety, each gardener can see for himself how unique this culture is. Experienced summer residents guarantee that you will not regret choosing this potato for your plot.
