Anonim

The dream of many gardeners is to have tasty and fruitful cherries in the garden with high quality fruits, resistant to frost and disease, and consistently fruiting every season. These are the qualities of the Oktava cherry variety. This variety differs from others in early flowering and fruit ripening, abundant harvest and excellent taste.

Origin story

Oktava was bred in 1986 by Bryansk agricultural scientists by selective crossing. Breeders developed markers of various varieties and bred new ones, further analyzed according to the required indicators.The selection process continued until the desired result was achieved, until Octave was obtained - a cherry that satisfies the specified properties.

Variety description

Trees of this variety are medium in size and have a compact, round crown with small, slightly pointed leaves with a matte surface.

Octava cherry begins to bear fruit four years after planting, forming inflorescences of five to six flowers, which, with proper care, turn into fragrant and juicy fruits.

The variety description is as follows:

  • pollination - partially self-fertile;
  • ripening - fast growing;
  • yield - forty kilograms from one tree;
  • berries - juicy, dark cherry color, with an easily separated stone;
  • fetal weight - four grams;
  • transportation - not damaged during transportation, thanks to the dry separation of the tails;
  • frost resistance of a tree is average, it can withstand frosts up to twenty degrees;
  • frost resistance of the flower bud is high.

Thanks to the listed qualities, Octava has proven itself and gained popularity among gardeners.

Rules of planting and care

The most favorable time for planting seedlings is spring (late March-early April). For a tree, a sunny, draft-protected place with light soil is selected. Organic fertilizers are applied in advance to a well prepared in advance and, after two weeks, a seedling is planted.

Pay attention! Cherries do not like acidic soils; quenched lime is processed to neutralize them.

The soil around the planted tree is lightly trampled and watered abundantly with five buckets of water. In autumn, cherries need to be fed with potash and phosphorus fertilizers.

For proper care and maximum yield, follow these guidelines:

  • annually, before the start of sap flow, dry and old branches, shoots directed inside the crown are removed;
  • watering should be properly regulated: abundant during flowering and fruit formation, moderate when ripening;
  • monitor weeds, remove them in time;
  • fertilize correctly and on time.

The yield and normal development of the tree depends on the correct pruning, performed at the end of winter or early spring, before the sap flow begins. During this operation, extra branches are removed, the crown is thinned out and rejuvenated.

Advantages and disadvantages of the variety

This cherry has the following benefits:

  • productivity;
  • great tasting berries;
  • frost resistance;
  • the ability to maintain the quality of berries during transportation;
  • universal use of fruits.

Octave has no flaws.

Diseases and pests

Cherry is not subject to almost any disease due to strong immunity. But to protect against pests, the tree must be sprayed every spring with a special solution, and the trunks must be treated with lime. Oktava is suitable for growing in a warm and temperate climate in southern and central Russia. With high yields, disease resistance and good transportability, it will satisfy the needs of any grower.
