To choose the right seedling for your own garden, you need to understand the abundance of varieties. Features of Uyfehertoi Furtosh cherries, a description of the variety and the nuances of caring for it are presented in this material.
History of occurrence
Uyfehertoy Fyurtosh is a self-fertile Hungarian cherry variety based on the popular Panda.
Named after the Hungarian city of Novy Belozersk, and translates as Novobelozersk Curly.This city is known for cherry liqueur and an abundance of cherry orchards. The result was a high-yielding, winter-hardy, disease-resistant variety that Russian gardeners also liked.
Variety description
Spreading medium-sized tree with a pyramidal crown, gives high yields and begins to bear fruit 4 years after planting.
Fruits are large, 4.8 grams, with a pronounced cherry flavor. The stone is small, easily separated from the tender and juicy pulp. Cherries are dark red, medium ripening, a tree with a mixed type of fruiting (bouquet shoots and growth twigs). The descriptions of the variety specifically indicate its high yield - an adult tree produces 20-22 kilograms of berries.
Uyfehertoy Furtosh is resistant to moniliosis and coccomycosis - the main diseases of cherry trees.
Features of cultivation
Cherry refers to unpretentious garden plantings. Timely moderate watering, pruning and pest control is all the tree needs for good fruiting.
Cherries needed:
- watering - depending on weather conditions - 3-4 times per season;
- pruning, which is carried out in the spring for mature trees;
- applying complex fertilizers for fruit trees once a year;
- pest protection - if necessary, it is sprayed 2 times a season.
If these simple care rules are observed, there will be no problems with the tree.
Choosing a landing site
The area where you plan to plant a cherry tree should be protected from drafts and moderately lit. Cherry can grow on infertile soils, but does not tolerate waterlogging, acidic or s alty soil.
Landing
Cherries are planted in autumn or spring. Landing is carried out in October-November or in April, depending on the region. If winters are too cold, a fragile seedling may freeze. The hole is dug before planting, size 60x60 centimeters.
A layer of drainage is introduced at the bottom of a deep and wide pit, and then fertile soil. It is poured in a slide, on top of which a seedling is placed and the roots are carefully straightened.
Important: before planting, the tree is placed in water for 5-6 hours so that it has wet roots when planting.
Then the pit is covered with soil, the soil is slightly compacted, trampling down with a foot, and watered.
Care
Caring for cherries is easy, even a novice gardener can do it.
Irrigation
Cherry trees are drought tolerant, but flowering plantings should not suffer from lack of moisture. This leads to crop loss. Cherries are watered in case of strong drying of the near-stem circle. Water the second time when the ovary appears. The third watering is carried out in case of severe drought, when the berries ripen. And the last time watered in September-October.
Cutting
Young trees (up to 10 years old) are not pruned. In adult cherries, dry branches and excess shoots are removed. This rejuvenates the tree and relieves unnecessary stress.
Reproduction
Apply cuttings, grafting or propagation by shoots. Cherries can be grown from the seed, but this is a labor intensive process, and grown seedlings are usually significantly inferior to the mother tree in terms of yield and other qualities.
The easiest way to propagate cherries is by shoots. The roots of the young shoot are cut off from the roots of the mother plant, and it moves to the right place.
Cuttings are commonly used in nurseries. Cut off annual stiff shoots. They are cut into cuttings with 4-5 buds. The lower leaves are removed, leaving only the top 2. The lower cut is treated with Kornevin. The cuttings are planted in the prepared soil and covered with a film. It is regularly removed to ventilate, and plantings are watered.
Diseases and pests
Uyfehertoy Furtosh is a variety resistant to diseases and pests. It is not susceptible to monilial burn and has an average resistance to coccomycosis.
From diseases, the tree is sprayed with Bordeaux liquid or treated with copper oxychloride. You can buy a complex fungicide in gardening stores and use according to the manufacturer's instructions. The first spraying is carried out after the swelling of the kidneys, the next - after flowering.
Cherry is an unpretentious plant, it responds to minimal care with a high yield, and the taste of large fragrant cherries and homemade preparations from this berry will please the whole family.
