What is this drug?

TEDA is an acaricide for bees, the active ingredient of which is amitraz.The drug is available in the form of a white cotton cord. It measures 7 x 0.5 cm. The substance is sold in foil bags. Each of them contains 6 cords.

When the cord is burned, a smoke aerosol is formed, which has pronounced acaricidal properties and helps to cope with adult mites Acarapis woodi and Varroa jacobsoni. The main indications for the use of the substance include varroatosis and acarapidosis of honey bees.

Processing of bee colonies should be done in the evenings. It is recommended to do this after the end of the summer of bees. In this case, the temperature should be from +10 to +25 degrees.

Before use, the cord should be set on fire on one side, put out the fire and placed on a plywood backing. Then inject the drug into the lower notch. If the hive has a folding back wall, plywood can be placed behind the hive. Then it is desirable to close all the entrances for half an hour. After exposure, you can open them, pull out the plywood backing and check how burned the cord is.

There is another use of the substance. To do this, the cord should be placed in a triangular metal holder. Then it must be set on fire from below, extinguish the fire and place the smoldering cord vertically. It should be located between the two center frames of the nest.
