Cucumber Pasalimo: description and characteristics of the variety, care and yield with photo
In 2005, our vegetable growers first tried the Dutch cucumber Pasalimo f1 from Syngenta. The hybrid from the first season began to gain popularity, confirming the characteristics of the seed producer:
- parthenocarpic;
- yield (14.2 kg/m2);
- early ripe (39-41 days);
- for open field and plastic film greenhouses;
- resistant to diseases (powdery mildew, olive blotch, common mosaic virus);
- gherkin (8-10cm);
- cucumbers do not outgrow, do not taste bitter;
- delicious fresh and canned;
- suitable for transportation, keep their presentation for a long time.
If it is decided to plant Pasalimo in a seedless way in open ground, then you need to wait for stable warm weather, usually until the beginning or middle of May, and at first cover the seedlings with a film.
This method is suitable for southern regions with long summers. But still significantly shorten the fruiting period.
Seedlings
Early ripe variety Pasalimo is sown for seedlings in late April - early May, depending on the region.
Dutch seed does not need to be soaked as it is processed during production. Seeds are planted in pots with a volume of 0.4-0.5 liters with loose humus soil mixture and watered. To speed up germination, the dishes are placed in boxes and covered with foil until sprouts appear.
Water the seedlings often enough, not allowing the soil to dry out.
To prevent acidification of the soil, there should be many wide drain holes in the pots.
Cucumbers came to us from the subtropics, they love warmth and moist nutritious loose soil. But so that the bushes do not stretch too actively, it is better to keep the temperature in the range of 20-22 degrees. Water for irrigation use the same temperature.
2 weeks after germination, the first feeding of cucumbers with complex mineral fertilizer is carried out.
A week before planting in the ground on warm days, seedlings are taken out into the fresh air. This will help the plants adapt to the new conditions. At first, the plants are shaded. Pasalimo cucumber bushes are planted in the ground at about a month old after the appearance of 3-4 true leaves.
Soil
For a cucumber bed, choose a place open to the sun's rays, preferably protected from the wind. The predecessors should not be vegetables from the pumpkin family. It is better to choose a place in the former garden of tomatoes, eggplant, root crops, cabbage, greens.
Important! The roots of cucumbers germinate about 30 cm deep. This is the depth that loose, organic-rich soil should be.
To do this, garden soil is dug up with the addition of compost, scalded sawdust, peat, humus. You can apply granular mineral fertilizers.
Before planting seedlings, the garden bed is abundantly watered with hot water. Plants are taken out of pots carefully, without disturbing the earthy coma. According to the description of Pasalimo cucumber f1, the planting pattern is 30 × 60 cm. Usually it is 4-5 bushes per 1 m2.
Advice! If there are doubts about the weather, it is better to cover the bushes with a transparent film at first.
Shaping a bush
The description of the Pasalimo f1 cucumber variety says that the hybrid bush is interdeterminant. That is, the main lash will grow without stopping the entire growing season. This must be taken into account when forming plants. The Pasalimo cucumber variety requires a garter to a support. Already after 5-6 sheets, you can begin to fasten the lashes to the trellis.
It is advisable to remove flowers up to 6 leaves so that the bush has time to take root and grow stronger. Side shoots are also better to clean up to 5-6 leaves. And the next 2 lateral shoots are pinched on 2-3 leaves. In the future, with the growth of the bush of cucumbers, the lower leaves are also thinned out. This will eliminate thickening in the above-ground part, improve aeration and prevent infection.
Advice! Regular removal of dry leaves and fruiting shoots will stimulate active growth and renewal of the bush.
This will allow you to harvest Pasalimo f1 cucumbers before the onset of cold weather.
Water and fertilize
Cucumber requirements for soil moisture depend on weather conditions. On hot days, especially during the active filling of greens, daily watering may be required. In cool weather, it is better to exclude watering Pasalimo cucumbers altogether, since supercooled roots can be infected with fungal diseases.
The yield of Pasalimo f1 hybrid up to 14 kg/m2 is impossible without the application of complex mineral fertilizers. Feeding cucumbers provides plants with the necessary substances for normal fruiting. Already 10 days after transplanting, the first fertilizers are applied to the soil and repeated every 14 days.
Harvest
Cucumbers are tied in bunches of 3-6 pieces, regardless of the presence of pollinating insects.Crispy greens begin to pour together 40 days after germination. The fruits do not outgrow and patiently wait for their harvest. But keep in mind that the more often grown cucumbers break off, the faster the next ones ripen.
Fruits of Pasalimo f1 are dark green, densely pubescent, with noticeable tubercles. There are weak short stripes and a slight spotting of greens.
The shape and dimensions allow us to consider the Pasalimo variety as a gherkin. You can cut greens at the stage of pickles for canning. The pulp of cucumbers is juicy, fragrant and elastic.
One of the important qualities of the Pasalimo f1 hybrid is its good transportability and preservation of its presentation after transportation.
