Basic content requirements

The rules for raising pigs are regulated by the Order of the Ministry of Agriculture of the Russian Federation No. 114. They relate to keeping in open pigsties and are valid for private farms. Basic Requirements:

1. When building pig houses within the private sector, the required distances to neighboring sites are indicated. For a pigsty for 5 heads - 10 meters, for 8 heads - 20 meters.
2. Building on animal burial sites is prohibited.

5. The room must have natural and forced ventilation.

8. When used to feed food waste, they are boiled according to the regulations (30 minutes).
9. Purchase of livestock is carried out in proven farms. All pigs must have the prescribed identification certificates.

For the storage of manure, special areas are used where fecal masses are thermally disinfected. Disposal of waste and bodies is carried out according to certain regulations.

Sanitary standards

To get high-quality meat, it is important to follow sanitary standards when keeping, carefully monitor the he alth of livestock and feed. Sanitary rules are also spelled out in the regulations:

1. Access to the pigsty is restricted to persons involved in the work.
2. For work use overalls, the wearing of which outside the premises for pigs is unacceptable. Clothes are cleaned, laundered and disinfected regularly.
3. Sanitary treatment of the pigsty is carried out at least once a year (for boars - monthly). It is required to treat the walls with lime, disinfection of inventory, feeders. Pigs are returned to the premises 5 days after treatment.
4. Pigs are fed drinking water with constant access.
5. Manure is removed regularly (1-2 days).
6. Food storage areas are being cleared, washed and disinfected.
7. If mechanical feed and water supply is implemented, containers are cleaned daily, disinfected regularly.
8. With a large livestock, slaughter is carried out at special slaughterhouses. At home, pigs are slaughtered in areas remote from the pigsty and manure storage.

Pigs are regularly subjected to veterinary examination, to prevent the development of infections, vaccinations are carried out at the prescribed time. With a significant number of livestock, special facilities are required:

• quarantine;
• maternity for sows.

When planning the construction of a pigsty, it is necessary to ensure proper temperature conditions so that the livestock does not freeze or catch a cold. Pigs do not like drafts - cracks need to be sealed. Ventilation should not create air currents greater than 0.7 meters per second.

In cold weather, the air in the pigsty is heated to 12 °, at lower rates, growth slows down, pigs catch a cold. Young animals require a temperature of 18-22 °.

Pig quarantine

Quarantine facilities have 2 functions:

• overexposure of newly arrived animals until they join the main livestock;
• isolation of sick individuals so as not to infect everyone.

The quarantine zone should not be located near the pigsty, provide for careful isolation of suspicious individuals, change of staff clothing after contact. For pigs arriving from other places, quarantine is established for a period of a month so that the incubation period of any diseases ends before contact with the inhabitants of the common room. At this time, arrivals are regularly examined and the necessary vaccinations are carried out. If diseases are detected, a statement is made to the veterinary services, indicating where the pigs were purchased.

They also quarantine their own individuals, which are characterized by lethargy, weakness, loss of appetite, and unnatural behavior. Timely isolation from the general herd will help to contain the spread of infection. Sick pigs are provided with enhanced nutrition, comfortable conditions.

How long can you keep pigs in a private home

The laws of the Russian Federation do not determine the exact number of pigs allowed for keeping in private farms. These regulations are usually prescribed in regional regulations, which should be studied before building a pigsty on personal land.

In the city

When choosing the size of the livestock, you should be guided by the norms for the location of the pig farm in the private sector:
