Quails from shop eggs: is it possible to withdraw and further care
On the Internet, videos are posted and articles are written about successfully hatching quail from eggs intended for food and bought at a retail outlet. Intuitively, there should be a difference between eggs that are sold as food and those that are expected to produce offspring. And yet, do quails hatch from store-bought eggs, or is it pure myth?
Is it possible to breed quails from store eggs?
In order to get chicks, you need to meet certain conditions.
What does it take for a quail to hatch?
Irrefutably essential success factors: Eggs must not be dried out and the skin must not be cracked. Checking these characteristics is quite simple. When shaking from the egg, not a single sound should be heard. To detect visible defects among the selected samples, an ovoscope or any strong lighting device is used. Viewed in this way:
- microcracks;
- double yolk;
- bloodstains;
- mold on the inside of the shell;
- correct position of yolk and air chamber.
The yolk should be in the middle of the mass, a little closer to the blunt side. At the wide end of the shell is an air chamber.
The best results are obtained by incubation of eggs laid no earlier than a week before laying in the incubator. They are disinfected with a weak solution of potassium permanganate, and even better - with ultraviolet radiation for 1.5 minutes from each of the opposite sides.
Store quality
Neither GOSTs nor TUs require eggs sent to be eaten to hatch into chickens of any kind or breed. Risks when using store-bought raw materials:
- it is impossible to control the degree of freshness up to the day;
- transport conditions are less gentle than incubation material;
- the probability of fertilization may be zero.
Shelf life of table quail eggs is 30 days at 0-8 °C. On the example of chicken products, especially those with a white shell, it can be seen with the naked eye that almost all eggs intended for food have a thin coating, in large, almost through cracks.
When they buy eggs in the store, they do not know if males were allowed to laying hens. Quails belong to the order of chickens, rush without the process of fertilization.
Farmers say that without a cockerel, females behave more calmly. It happens that even in the presence of quail, the eggs turn out to be infertile. The hatching of chicks from such material is impossible according to the laws of nature.
Using Incubator
Quails become hens unpredictably. Therefore, starting to hatch chickens, poultry farmers buy an incubator. It is necessary for the industrial stable production of quail offspring. The dimensions of the incubator vary depending on the needs of the buyer.
Incandescent lamps heating the tray with embryos create a natural incubation temperature of 25-40 °C. The lower limit simulates the moment when the hen rises, the upper one - the temperature of the mother's body. The device has a thermostat and a device for automatic turning of eggs. Rotation stops two days before hatching.
During the incubation process, the chamber is ventilated through holes that can be opened or closed. They are located on the bottom or in the lid. It is necessary to have trays in which water is poured to maintain natural humidity.
The incubator is turned on 3 hours before laying, setting the temperature to 38.2 °C. Eggs are brought from a cool storage to a warm room and warmed up to room temperature. After filling the incubator for 2 hours, the thermostat is in the same position. Egg hatching occurs on the 17th day.
Further care
If you want to get stable results and not waste time and electricity, the poultry breeder constantly uses the ovoscope. The actions of the operator monitoring the incubation process are described in the table.
Hatching period, days | Grooming procedure |
1-7 | Temperature - 37.8 °C, humidity - 50-55%. 3-4 turns per day. No need to ventilate. |
8-14 | Temperature - 37.8 °C, Humidity - 45-50 %. Turn the masonry 1 time in 5 hours. Ventilate the incubator 2 times a day for 15-20 minutes. |
15-17 | so that the parameters of the internal and external environments do not differ much. Humidity - 60-65%. |
The first hatched quails can be left for a day or two near unborn comrades. After the appearance of the last chick, the babies are kept in an incubator until the plumage is completely dry for everyone. The group is then transferred to a kennel.
Categorically declare that not a single chicken can come from store-bought eggs, no one will undertake. Miracles do happen.
