Eimeterm for rabbits: instructions for use and composition, dosage and analogues
Rabbit breeders have to treat various pet diseases. Diseases leading to the death of animals deserve special attention. Timely and correctly started treatment is the key to the recovery of pets. Eimeterm is an anti-coccidial agent for rabbits that exhibits a wide spectrum of action. The drug is used to combat parasites and as a disease prevention.
Composition and formulation of the drug
The drug is produced as a 5% oral suspension. "Eimeterm" belongs to the group of triazinetriones (anticoccidial drugs).The main active ingredient is toltrazuril (50 mg is contained in 1 ml of suspension), which causes the death of parasites.
Suspension "Eimeterm" is available in 100 ml plastic bottles. It is recommended to shake the liquid in the vial before use.
Indications for use of the remedy
The drug is prescribed for the treatment of rabbits from coccidiosis and as a prophylactic, since the disease is often found in farms. As a rule, the peak of the spread of the disease occurs in the warm season. Most often, rabbits aged 3-5 months become infected with parasites. Adults are predominantly carriers of the infection. Rabbits become infected by sucking mother's milk.
The duration of the initial period of the disease is several days. Common symptoms:
- permanent diarrhea or constipation;
- bloating or groin;
- convulsions.
Animals rapidly lose weight, coat loses its luster, becomes disheveled. If treatment is not started in a timely manner, animals die in 12-14 days.
Instructions for using Eimeterm for rabbits
For the treatment and prevention of the disease, rabbits from the age of one month receive a single dose at the rate of 0.14 mg per kilogram of weight. It should be borne in mind that the remedy does not eliminate clinical symptoms, therefore, pathogenetic therapy drugs are additionally prescribed to rabbits.
If the disease is severe (neurological signs are observed in the form of convulsions, sudden falls with head tilted back), then after 5 days the introduction of the Eimeterm suspension is repeated.
The drug is administered orally - the liquid is squeezed onto the root of the tongue with a syringe or by means of an automatic dispenser (1 ml of the drug is released at one press). To evenly distribute the precipitate, the medicinal substance must be shaken well before use.
For prophylactic purposes, the drug is soldered to animals even in the absence of signs of illness. The reasons for the spread of parasites may be non-compliance with sanitary standards (rare cleaning of premises, small cells, high humidity and drafts, a sharp change in diet, lack of vitamins).
Contraindications
The drug has no clear contraindications. Sometimes animals may experience allergy symptoms caused by individual sensitivity to the active substance. In such cases, the rabbit is prescribed antihistamine drugs.
Decrease in appetite, decrease in water intake are the main signs of a drug overdose.
Drug side effects
The disadvantage of the remedy is a long period of withdrawal of the active substance from the body of rabbits.When treating animals with Eimeterm, it must be taken into account that after slaughter, their meat should not be eaten, since the drug is very toxic to the human body. Slaughter of animals is allowed approximately 2-2.5 months after the use of the medicinal substance.
Storage Features
Given the toxicity of the drug to humans, it is desirable to allocate a separate place for storing vials, protected from light and moisture. The recommended temperature regime is 5-25 °С.
What are the analogues?
Several broad-spectrum antibiotics can be used to treat and prevent coccidiosis. "Zinaprim", due to the combination of sulfamethazine and trimethoprim, is suitable for the treatment of coccidiosis, rhinitis, enteritis, pneumonia.
Baytril's main active ingredient is enrofloxacin, which also inhibits the development of gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria. Rabbits tolerate the drug well, but injections are quite painful.
Rabbit breeding is a troublesome task. Newborn rabbits are very vulnerable and can become infected with parasites immediately after birth. Therefore, for therapeutic and prophylactic purposes, it is recommended to have medicines in the veterinary kit.
