Jig for assembling frames: how to make a machine for making beehives with your own hands

Bees collect honey on special frames installed in the hives. They are made by beekeepers for them from wooden bars. For a home apiary, the presence of a jig for assembling frames will allow you to make them in the required quantity in a short time. Consider the types of designers, how to assemble them with your own hands at home, what materials and tools are needed.

Why do we need a jig to collect frames

This is a special, simple design device that greatly simplifies and speeds up the assembly of standard frames. This is because they are assembled in several copies at once, a kind of conveyor is obtained. As a result, a person spends less time and effort on collecting the products necessary for beekeeping.

For a small apiary, it is enough to have 1-2 devices on the farm. Standard is designed for about 10 copies. You can use it multiple times. You can purchase a ready-made conductor or make it yourself.

Types of machines

The conductor can be made from square metal tubes or from wooden bars. The design of the device is simple and reliable, it can be adjusted for the manufacture of frames of various types. Usually these are the widely used frames "Dadan", "Ruta" and "Shop".

Drawings and dimensions

The height of the conductor is adjusted depending on the size of the frames knocked down on it. For "Dadan" height will be 300 mm, for "root" - 230 mm and "shop" 15 mm. The constructor can be disassembled and folded into separate parts if you need to move or transport it somewhere.

The constructor consists of four tubes or bars fastened together in the form of a square. The height of the structure wall is 130 mm. For 10 pieces, the interior space should be:

  • length 435mm;
  • width 373mm (the width of each plank is 37mm and 3mm must be left for a gap that will ensure free entry of products).

In the side walls of the structure there are wooden grooves into which the holder bars are inserted.

The distance between them and the walls of the structure should be equal to the thickness of the side frame walls. Ten such grooves must be made from wooden blanks and installed on opposite sides of the conductor. They must be installed tightly so that they do not dangle.

Preparation of tools and materials

You will need a metal tube or wooden blocks, depending on which conductor you need to assemble.

From the materials you will also need nails or screws, a hammer or a screwdriver.

How to make a jig for assembling frames with your own hands

Metal jig manufacturing procedure:

  • Prepare parts of the metal profile cut to the above dimensions.
  • Weld the planks at the joints.
  • From both sides in the lower part, weld limiters at the bottom, also cut out of the pipe, which will align the wooden planks during assembly.
  • In the corners from the outside, screw the bolts that will adjust the length of the frames.

The wooden conductor is assembled in the same way. Wooden planks are fastened with screws along the edges. Grooves must be made in two opposite sides of the device. Like a metal one, a wooden constructor can be adjusted depending on the dimensions of the products. On it, you can make, on average, a dozen blanks at a time. Due to the fact that the frame strips to be knocked down stand exactly, in finished form they turn out to be the same in size. They are easy to install in beehives and honey extractors.

Collecting blanks on the jig is just as easy:

  • You need to put it on a flat surface.
  • Put the sides of the frames vertically on both sides.
  • Fix them at the bottom with clamp spacers.
  • Smear the sidewalls on the end with glue, put the upper strips so that they connect the sidewalls on opposite sides of the jig. Secure the joints with nails, small screws or a stapler.
  • To continue working and assemble the rest of the frames, you need to turn the jig upside down.
  • On the fixing parts of the jig, install the supporting sidewalls of the strip. Re-glue the ends of the sidewalls.
  • Lay out the planks in sequence and fix them in the same way with a stapler or nails in the corners.
  • Remove clamping struts, support bars and retainers.

You can take finished products out of the structure. The assembly time is 10-20 minutes, which is much less than if you assemble each frame separately.

If the household has a jig for frames, they can always be quickly assembled from wooden planks of a suitable size. The device is simple, easy to operate, saves time and effort.
