Potatoes have been taking pride of place on the garden beds and tables of Russians for many years. The plant combines ease of cultivation, good taste and productivity. Every year there are new varieties that can bear fruit in the most difficult conditions. The novelty of the German selection was the Rodrigo potato. Agrofirm "Solana GmbH & Co" managed to get a unique variety, which has become in demand outside the native land. Russia included it in the State Register in 2009.

General information about the plant

Potato variety Rodrigo today is recommended for cultivation in many regions of Russia. The success of the results is confirmed by the reviews of vegetable growers from different regions. Characteristics of the variety and features of appearance:

• Mid-early, you can dig up the root crop in 70-85 days from the date of planting.
• Semi-erect shrub with several branches.
• When ripe, the color of the bushes turns yellow.
• Semi spreading.
• High, up to 80 centimeters.
• Not too thick shoots.
• Medium sized, reddish purple flowers.
• Large green leaves with moderately wavy edges.
• Very high yield, up to 45 tons per hectare of land.
• Up to 10 potatoes per bush.
• Unpretentious.
• Tolerates lack of moisture well.
• Cultivation possible in poor soils.
• Immune to many diseases: cancer, late blight of tops and tubers, scab, nematode.

Rodrigo's potato has successfully passed yield testing in northern and southern parts of Russia. The variety is recommended for cultivation on an industrial scale in the Middle Volga region.

• Large size, with an average weight of 200 grams and individual roots of 800 grams.
• Oval-elongated shape.
• Dense, thin skin.

• Intense yellow or creamy flesh.
• Medium starch, up to 16%.

The variety is distinguished by the possibility of universal use. The root crop does not boil soft, suitable for frying, preparing salads, soups, independent side dishes.

Growing advice

The plant is not demanding on the composition of the soil. To get the best harvest, choose a well-lit, flat area. Wetlands or sandy areas are not suitable for cultivation. Undesirable places for planting include the soil on which the nightshade family was grown and areas near apple trees. The soil should be prepared in advance from autumn:

• Cleaning the remains of vegetation, roots.
• Fertilization, which contains nitrogen and calcium.
• Digging the soil to a depth of 30 centimeters.
• If the soil is too acidic, dolomite flour or slaked lime is added to the ground, crushed chalk, eggshells are suitable as an additive.

IMPORTANT! For fertilizer, the use of fresh manure is prohibited.

2-3 weeks before planting, seed potatoes should be taken out of storage and placed in a well-lit area. You can place the planting material directly on the floor or any large container at an air temperature in the room of at least 15 degrees. Potatoes should germinate no more than 5 millimeters. You can start planting only after the earth warms up to at least 8 degrees.

Planting a plant is recommended in rows, at a distance of 20 centimeters from each other. Planting depth 10 cm. Plant care consists of weeding and loosening.

Good day! Positive feedback from neighbors prompted me to plant Rodrigo. The unpretentious variety perfectly endured the hot summer, the crop was not damaged. The taste of the root crop is delicate, suitable for boiling and frying. It is stored for a long time and even with mechanical damage. I did not find any cons for myself.

Good day! I want to leave positive feedback to German breeders. This summer I discovered the Rodrigo variety. Potatoes show good yields when grown in poor soil. An undemanding plant is ready for harvest in 70-80 days. The bush is sprawling, about 70 centimeters high. From one bush I collected 8-10 root crops. Taste is decent. I advise everyone!
