Growing advice

Cucumber Hutorok is intended for cultivation in open and closed ground, and experienced vegetable growers have adapted to grow it on balconies:

  • With seedling cultivation, seeds are sown in early May, and in open ground - from late May to early June.
  • Before sowing, the seeds are soaked for a day in warm water.
  • The soil for planting is prepared in advance. In cucumbers, the root system is superficial, does not take root deeply, therefore, for full development, they need fertile soil. To do this, the cucumber bed should be prepared in the fall: dig up and apply organic fertilizers - rotten manure or compost. If the soil is acidic, it should be limed.
  • Planting scheme - 40x40 cm. Seeds are buried no more than 2-3 cm, sprinkled with earth on top and poured abundantly with warm water.
  • After sowing and before germination, the seedlings are covered with a film or non-woven material.
  • Cucumber is a moisture-loving plant, it is especially important not to allow the soil to dry out during the active formation of ovaries and fruits. Water cucumbers only with warm water. The best option for retaining moisture is mulching plantings with mowed grass. In addition, the mulch inhibits the growth of weeds and prevents soil compaction from frequent watering, which will provide the root system with oxygen without loosening.
  • Loosening cucumbers is not recommended, as the roots are located close to the surface and are easily damaged. Instead, you can use a pitchfork and make holes in the ground 10-15 cm deep.

Regular and timely harvesting prolongs the fruiting period and increases the yield of cucumbers.

Tips for growing cucumbers indoors

At home, Hutorok cucumbers can be grown all year round, the main thing is to create optimal conditions for the normal growth and development of plants:

  • In winter (October to March), cucumbers will need additional lighting.
  • Growing place should be chosen on the sunny side (windowsill or balcony).
  • If the humidity level is low at home, it is recommended to place small containers of water next to the plantings. Regular spraying of plants will be useful. But the best option, if possible, is to cover the cucumbers with foil to create a greenhouse effect.
  • It is important to remember that the Hutorok cucumber does not self-pollinate, it needs bees to form fruits. Therefore, when growing in a city apartment, you should take care of pollination. You can use a soft brush for this.

If all care requirements are met, Hutorok will delight with fresh delicious cucumbers all year round.
