Geese pen: how to build an aviary with your own hands, materials and arrangement

Making a pen for geese is a serious occupation that requires knowledge and skills. Before starting construction, experts recommend that you familiarize yourself with a number of requirements that are put forward for a birdhouse. Next, you need to draw up an estimate and plan the stages of construction. In the early stages, you need to understand how many geese the house will be designed for.

Basic requirements for a goose coop

Many farmers know that breeding birds, especially geese, is a profitable business. This bird is unpretentious in care, but the more comfortable the conditions of its keeping, the better the result.

For a bird to fully develop and be productive, you need to create the necessary conditions, tested by experts in practice:

  • openings for windows and doors should face south because there is more light;
  • enclose the paddock adjoining the premises securely;
  • make a reservoir, but dampness is unacceptable, as it is a favorable environment for the development of infections;
  • important ventilation, lighting, complete absence of drafts;
  • temperature regime should be maintained around 20-25 °C;
  • humidity within 60%.

The corral should have a place for walking and a small pond

Geese are kept in small groups of up to 50 heads, while they are separated by breed, as well as adults from babies. The poultry house is made free. For each bird allocated from 1 m2Accordingly, for 5 individuals you need 5 m2, for 10 - 10 m2, for 20 - 20 m2Compliance with area norms will allow the farmer to avoid dirt and the development of infectious diseases.

Types of structures

Mobile summer house for geese

Goosies have different types. First of all, they are divided into summer and winter rooms. The summer version of the poultry house is a small building with several walls, mostly made of mesh. The task of such a room is to protect the bird from bad weather and sunlight. Sometimes they are made portable and built from improvised materials, such as pallets.

Winter poultry houses (they are stationary) are suitable for the northern or central regions of the country. They have special requirements. It is necessary to install a high floor, provide space heating and lay insulation. For some areas of our country, it will be necessary to build both summer and winter premises.

Winter building for birds

When building an aviary, it is necessary to take into account the dimensions that directly depend on the number of heads. In the central and northern regions, the walking yard should be installed on the south side, and in hot regions, the playground should be located in the southeast or southwest.

Materials for making

You can build a house with your own hands, but you should choose the right materials in advance:

  • wooden beams, edged and unedged boards, small logs;
  • silicate bricks (one and a half);
  • foam blocks;
  • tiled and roll insulation;
  • sand, cement, gravel;
  • drywall, plywood;
  • slate, roofing material or tiles for roofing.

Sketch of a summer house

During construction, you will need not only materials, but also tools: hammers, different types of shovels, axes and files, a drill, fasteners, a level and a tape measure, as well as a concrete mixer.

Building a bird shed with your own hands

Any kind of poultry houses can be built by yourself. To do this, you need to have free time and skills. First of all, you will need to prepare a project that will display the stages of construction. The sketch indicates the parameters: dimensions, location of windows, doors, bird hatches and passages. At the same time, the number of geese is taken into account.

Foundation

First stage - laying the foundation

Dig a deep trench to lay the foundation. Crushed stone and sand are poured inside, and then carefully rammed.A metal mesh is laid on top. Next, formwork should be erected from the boards and covered with a thick film to make it easier to dismantle it. Then the concrete is poured.

The concrete will mature evenly in a few days. For regions with a cold climate, additional thermal insulation will be required. More often, a layer of expanded clay more than 15-20 cm is used for this. This material retains moisture and retains heat.

Care must be taken to keep rodents out of the house. Therefore, you need to make a blind area from a layer of concrete. At the same time, drainage ditches should be provided to remove excess moisture.

Building walls

The choice of a suitable material for walls largely depends on the design of the room. The walls begin to build with the implementation of the lower strapping. Corner supports are attached to it. They need to be given more attention. Corner supports must be reinforced with rigid triangle fasteners. Intermediate racks are built at the frame.

Lags for the future floor are laid on the upper part of the strapping. Next, you need to complete the top trim. Supports should be attached to the bottom and top. The height of the resulting frame should be a little over 2 m.

Next, they start sheathing from the outside, using boards and laying inside with a special film. Then you can use sheets of plywood or drywall. Insulation in summer buildings is not required. For winter poultry houses, it is necessary to take into account the volume of insulation and vapor barrier. The minimum layer of insulation should be 40 mm.

Finishing the floor

When the logs are mounted, they make a filing for subsequent backfilling of rubble. Using slate or cement-bonded particle board, they make a base under a layer of insulation. A layer of gravel is poured under the logs, and then rough floors are laid from boards.

Wooden floor joists

Next, you need to make a layer of moisture insulation with a dense plastic film. After that, you can start laying the final version of the floor. For these purposes, cement-bonded tile is suitable. This is a quality material and it tolerates moisture well.

At the stage of laying the flooring, one must not forget about a certain slope towards the sewer to remove waste. Floors can be made of concrete or adobe, but in any case, wooden flooring is required.

Window and door openings

Windows and doors are installed in the usual way. It is desirable to use double windows. This will allow you to fully ventilate the room.

If the air does not circulate freely, then due to high humidity, rotting of materials occurs - wood, straw, layers of insulation, sawdust.

Since the most important thing in a poultry house is to avoid drafts, all cracks are treated with sealants or foam. It is important for birds to keep warm. This will greatly increase your productivity.

It is known that in addition to the front door of the usual size in the house there should be several small doors (hatches) for birds. They can be made from thick wooden boards, the bottom of which must be covered with iron to protect against rodents. In some regions, winters are cold, then the door is protected by some kind of heat-insulating material. Hatches should be placed on the south side.

How to build a roof

Double pitched house roof

The roof is often made gable. This design will help to avoid the accumulation of snow. The task of the roof is to withstand a layer of snow in winter, to protect it from rain and wind. Therefore, during construction, it is necessary to use high-quality and durable materials that will last for a long period of time.

First you need to install the rafters using the bars. Next, mount the inner crate. Inside, high-quality waterproofing is required using a special polyethylene film.

If insulation is required, then any suitable material folded in several layers can be used. More often, rolled or tiled material is used for these purposes. At this stage, it is important to securely seal the joints.

Outside you will also need a layer of film to protect against moisture. Then the crate is made from the side of the street. For the roof, slate or roofing material is suitable. Sometimes some types of tiles are used.

Features of building a winter chicken coop

First of all, you need to decide on a heater. For these purposes, the following materials are selected:

  • sawdust of a certain size;
  • foam;
  • ecowool.

Any kind of cotton wool is easy to fit, perfectly breathable, but at the same time, it quickly rots in high humidity. Sawdust is also susceptible to decay. Styrofoam retains heat, does not let in moisture, does not rot, but takes up space when laying.

Internal home improvement for geese

Goose nests

Each house, regardless of design, must have a lighting system, ventilation, heating. If the house contains a large number of geese, then partitions will be required. They are necessary in order to separate goslings from adult geese, as well as birds of different breeds.

When placing partitions, take into account that each of the premises must be quickly cleaned of litter and food residues. Partitions are made of wood or fine metal mesh.

For the internal structure of the poultry house, elements are needed to maintain the normal life of geese: drinkers, feeders, nests. Feeders for dry food should contain the daily volume. Other types of containers (for wet and mineral feed) should also be capacious and have high sides. The number of nests depends on the population. They are installed in a dark, dry place.
